Were there to be a day dedicated to celebrating the million-viewmark by virtue of the Ghost of Yotei State of Play trailer, then three million would have been a far more worthy celebration. If the single trailer was to be considered eye candy, what is it that really occupies such eyes? Some are excited; some are skeptical; others just choose to be plain chaotic with their responses on Twitter.
First comes the numbers: surely three million is a statistically decent figure. And for a game still in development, that number weighs in its favor somehow. And yet, several gamers have argued that views do not necessarily correlate to sales. “Views are not sales,” ChapotePro laughed. Dunda pointed out, however, that the view count needs to be given perspective when one brings in GTA 6, an actual count of 263 million views.
So, does this really mean anything? Well, CoffeeStainer put it pretty well: “Are these views a reflection of excitement for the game itself? I think it just shows that people spend more time on the internet now.” And really? He has a point. This could just be the new norm, huge numbers of views being attained by gaming content.
Others remain unconvinced. EditoMZ simply confesses: “I couldn’t even finish this SoP, zero hype on my part.” Ouch. Meanwhile, the positives are there to cheer: OptimusPS boldly declared, “It will sell many millions.”
It’s goin’ on side way-aggressive. Typical Fredex91 insulted it with “woke ass trash 💀” (really classy). ResetEra_Tards follows with his fullest assault on Zuby_Tech, calling him a “jobless bum” for tracking every 100k view increase. Harsh? Maybe. Fun? Definitely!
And guess what? The wild predictions are not over yet. Dunda boldly predicts 10 million copies; ShinnoSxntana mocks, “You going to wait over four years to make that claim?” while John45510 backs the latter with receipts, proving that very high engagement will almost always result in monumental sales. This is peak Twitter drama.
That said, in its own way, the Ghost of Yotei‘s State of Play has managed to put one great point across – It got people talking. Whether that gasping spill of hype for the game itself ever translates into sales is another question; for now, the numbers just speak for themselves. Three million views is a big first step, and once gameplay comes out, this train is only going to gather speed.
Next up? More trailers, more debates, more fights on Twitter. One thing the whole industry agrees on is that Ghost of Yotei has the attention; in today’s quick-paced game arena, that’s half the battle. Now all that’s left to do is hope the game’s worth all this.
And if it doesn’t? Well, that will only make for even better Twitter responses.
