Ghost of Yōtei looks like one of the most anticipated games of the year, and PlayStation has come out with a new trailer to showcase the customization players can tinker with on the October 2 launch date. The recent Flipster release showed off brand new armor, weapons, charms, and gear to make the samurai’s appearance customizable down to the smallest details. Of course, there was an opinion poll on the Internet-hype, skepticism, and a whole lot of fighting over whether it is or is not “woke.” Classic.

In all fairness, the deep customization options were shown in the tweet, basically allowing players to put together any attire to create their dream samurai (or samurai-adjacent). Weapons, armor, and charms can influence your approach to combat and exploration. Some others were counting down the days. @DomTheBombYT tweeted, “Patiently waiting for October 2nd!” and @Murderous_CrowX praised the “great weapons trees,” hopefully suggesting the greatest selling point is indeed deep combat.

Others are not yet sold. @Captain_Haruno was asking some hard questions to PlayStation: “Where’s the hook? What makes this game special?” They were setting up a comparison with other upcoming titles, such as *Wuchang: Fallen Feathers* and *Black Myth: Wukong*, to appreciate why *Ghost of Yōtei* tries to claim the space. @SneakySnake2375 made some jokes about the protagonist competing with *Fable* for “most unattractive female protagonist in a woke game.” (Yeah. That actually happened.)

There came that classic unwelcome slant on the “woke” debate-well, it had to come at some time. @hawo1524 deemed it “woke garbage,” to which @pilater89 replied, “I deal with it no problem. Cause i don’t give a fuck.” It became messy, with @KentrellBishop throwing in, “You can keep your woke garbage 🗑️ no one’s buying it.” Meanwhile, @former_mao nostalgically said, “good times when people played as women and never gave two shits about it.”

That are some here, such as @1meen1, that question whether the game legitimately deserves to be a PS5 exclusive, saying that it “looks exactly just like the first one.” Others, such as @PurpleKisses__, are just optimistic about the gift and will replay the first game before jumping into the sequel. Then @KC_4191 is going around for “Ghost of Yōtei puts Assassin’s Creed Shadows to shame.”

So, then, what’s the verdict? *Ghost of Yōtei* is apparently a subject for competing views: the good and the bad. The customizations are deep, the combat is serious, and the art still holds some polish, albeit a little up for debate. Then it is left to be seen whether it delivers on its hype or escapes from the “woke” circus. For now, though, October 2 is going to be here before some even realize it, while the rest will probably be still arguing about it on Twitter.
