Just a casual PlayStation tweet going, “You’ve been busy! How many bounties did you claim in Ezo this weekend?” followed by comments erupting like wildfire-Well-that massive outpouring just shows how divided the gaming community is over this new samurai adventure.

Bounties? What are those? In Ghost of Yotei, you’re a warrior who tracks targets all over Ezo, completes contracts, and climbs the ranks of bounty hunters-it’s a primary loop some players get super obsessed with and others just don’t click with.

And the players reacted in every unusual way possible. For instance, benmetalhead gave a very proud statement: “My bounty rank is now Ghost of Yotei. So yeah, I’ve been really busy with the bounties in this game.” Now that’s commitment. The rest of the players must have felt excitement because Twoquiik20 said “ALL OF THEM” along with a gif of chaos.

On the other hand, some refused to get onboard. The comment section became a true war zone, some called the game “woke garbage” while others vehemently defended it. PlateArmorMouse commented, “None. I will not buy this woke garbage game by woke garbage people,” which… okay then. But DerriqEvans retaliated, saying “Crazy how PlayStation players brag to XBOX about having the best exclusive games but when it comes to a female Samurai sequel game from the 1st one which is EXCLUSIVE to PlayStation now all of a sudden PS players call it woke trash.”

“Pppl who say games are woke bcuz of a female are gay. Especially men saying that,” the “woke” argument kept coming up, with DerriqEvans uttering said statement, which is… a take, I guess. Others wanted to just get on with enjoying the game free of drama. “I’ve just started this incredibly beautiful game. So only 1 so far. Not in a rush. Never played the 1st game – so don’t care to hear criticism,” Marsha Leigh claimed. She likened it to “Exp 33” and Zelda games, saying it feels overwhelming at first but she’s dying to unlock more content.

“We Black powder one and the one with the hounds were my favourites so far. I love how they are all unique,” SteveCooper gave highly detailed praise, essentially. Obviously, the players that are putting their effort into it are really enjoying the variety of bounties. Then SteveCooper told another player, “It’s not a game to be rushed. Just take in the beautiful sights and music inbetween the slaughtering,” which is big-time gamer advice.

Meanwhile, the sales argument was just elevating from here. Red_XVII pushed that Sony’s pushing their product because “people aren’t buying it” and he fought meanwhile “Apparently the game sold more than the first one in 24h” – so who even knows what’s true at this point. Yet the asinine console-war talk didn’t remain confined to that: ABowles1221 responded, “None…. too busy talking about Xbox dead again” paired with an eye-roll emoji, apparently we can’t just talk about one game without dragging other platforms into it.

There were also technical discussions going on in other places, Vnorman007 complaining about “Whoever came up with the idea of Snowstorm Katagiri needs to seek God.” For all intents and purposes, this appears to be a description of an extremely hard weather condition or mission that frustrates him and others. TheRealMecazor started an offshoot about voice acting, stating, “people are missing out on real voice acting if you are playing with English dub language, select Japanese voice acting and immerse yourself in real Japan.”

The quality discussions are everywhere. FlemmingDa30605 states: “Just not close to the original, unfortunately. I really gave it a try — boring, repetitive, and Atsu is just….meh.” On the other hand, Gh0st35118056 regarded it as “a such fine example of a single player game done right!” So really… It’s all pick your side.

Ghost of Yotei sure does get players talking, hate or love. Some players find that the bounty system is engaging enough that they go full grind mode, ranking up and completing just about as many contracts as they can, whereas others just take it easy, soaking in the scenery and atmosphere in between assignments. And then there’s the lot that just can’t be bothered for any of those reasons-and so many more tied to gameplay complaints and political discussions.

At the end of the day, whether Ezo bounty hunting is your new addiction or the next disappointment-waistline-dissecting story to tell at the pub depends. The split reaction just shows how treacherous sequels can be: the original has to be adored, but something different has to be offered-and so far, that’s definitely proving more difficult than landing that perfect counter with your sword. However, whether you’re peppering your way through your ranks or just giving Ghost a pass, one thing is for sure: An innocent PlayStation question about Weekend Bounties sparked an entire rift and made passion bubble on both sides within the gaming community.
