As noted on the forums and Discord, HoYoVerse’s special program for Genshin Impact titled “Song of the Welkin Moon” is scheduled for August 29th, 2025 at 7:51 AM UTC-4 on their YouTube and Twitch channels. With their announcement, the excitement has already started brewing. This is a big deal because version 6.0 is a major update and with version 6.0, Sumeru will be a forgettable blip in comparison.
With the new stream announcement, the Discord forums are bubbling with activity. It looks like the official announcement is split into two. The first part involves the Genshin Impact dev team as usual, for the reveal of new story content, characters, and new region content. Then, off to the side of the main stream, a special guest is set to appear before and after the main show. They are set to give “juicy details” about new game content and development, as well as share goody codes, which they love to spam in the chat for. Free primogems are always welcome.
All the buzzworthy details are in the comments. The community is going wild in the comments, and going through them is an experience in itself. People are clearly wondering about the characters that have yet to be revealed. The most popular outcry? “WHERE IS VARKA????” People have been incessantly chanting the release of the knight of borris for ages now, and asking about him is a meme at this point. Since version 1.0, people have been waiting for his release. And with the assumption that the next region will be the cold northern region, people have expected the monstadt cavalry captain to make an appearance. Still nothing.
Now, let’s talk about the Flins hype. The community is obsessed over a character we barely know anything about. The comments are mostly “FLINS FLINS FLINS” and “I’M WAITING FOR YOU FLINS,” as if they’re waiting for some kind of cult to start. The exact same zeal happened when everyone was hyped over Scaramouche before he was released as a playable character. These Genshin players have somehow developed a connection towards characters based on two pixels of leaked art.
Of course, the Fatui simps are out in full force. Everyone is wondering about Dottore, Sandrone, as well as every Harbinger. One player even begged, “please hoyo don’t ruin her just make her pretty as a character with a great story and not my cousin died 10,000,000 years ago and I’ve been suffering from depression since then and that’s why i became evil fatui” which is…strangely specific but somewhat valid? Genshin is notorious for the tragic backstories.
There is also interesting speculation about voice actor recasts. Someone mentioned hoping to hearing about the English recasts of characters like Paralogism and Dainsleif, which has been a lingering question with the community, especially with some of the (struggles) that have happened with certain VAs.
It is weird timing for the announcement now that it is August 29th and only days away, in my current writing. I would think this might be short notice for a version update preview and makes me think that this update is more attention than usual. Perhaps they have something major to share and they are trying to avoid leaks, and for that, waiting for the announcement is closer to the date. Or perhaps they have something major to share that they absolutely need to tell us. The new region is sure to be unveiled if the popular guess of Nod-Krai is the new region’s name, which is coming from the replies. There is a fan of the region that continually shouts “IT’S TIME FOR NOD-KRAI” which I am assuming is a battle cry.
The funniest part is how the community is completely torn when it comes to spoilers. One user said “Genshin forcing me to fight my social Media addiction by forcing me to leave all platforms after the program releases cause the Programms are so spoiler-heavy that u can’t go on any platform without getting bombarded by screenshots from it.” Which is completely true. The moment the livestream finishes, all the social media platforms are flooded with spoilers. You can’t even open your messages without new character designs being shared.
Then the people hoping for any news about the anime comes to mind. One user responded, “Just give me some updates about the anime, and I will be happy.” Do you remember the Genshin’sweet collaboration announcement with Ufotable? That was ages ago, and the news has gone silent since. Hopefully, 6.0 will give some details, but, again, it’s still hopeful.
People are eagerly waiting, as the excitement is spread across the screen. People look forward to new content, new characters, new places, and more to explore. People have spent the last few weeks doing daily quests after the latest expansion in the hope of the next big thing. 6.0 is said to be the exact thing people are waiting for. Training a new major version number is said to be the sign of a new nation, or a big expansion to the existing ones.
What is different is the way the livestream is conducted. The main section for the event is slated to begin at 8:00 AM UTC-4, but the premiere begins at 7:51. Moreover, there are special guests both before and after the main event. They do not follow this format usually. Voice actors or notable content creators are coming? Or maybe it is just additional hype for the event? Either way, this hints that this event would be lengthier than the usual thirty-minute information session.
The redemption codes are always appreciated, too. The free primogems are welcome even if you need to watch to receive them. I do think the livestream would be watched by the majority regardless of the codes, though. Looking forward and speculating over new reveals along with everybody else is part of the community, and it is quite fun.
As the date draws nearer, August 29th, the anticipation keeps mounting. Will we finally get Varka? Will the new region meet the hype? What new mechanics will they introduce? There are so many questions, and luckily, the wait is quite short. Don’t forget to tune in to Twitch and YouTube to catch the action live. Mark your calendar and set your alarm, as you might want to clear your schedule since this is going to be one of the biggest Genshin updates yet, if not the biggest.
