The conclusion of Gamescom 2025 left me with lasting impressions, and unfortunately, they weren’t the best. The mornings leading up to the convention showcased a deplorable number of new game announcements, all of which served as a low-quality appetizer for what followed. Immediately after the closing ceremony, gaming peripherals company Razer rudely interrupted social media streams, insisting on inquiring which title people seemed the most excited about. What everyone in the community exclaimed was an absolute delight for me and many others.
Let’s confront what everyone is or rather was hoping Hollow Knight would address. Let’s confront the infamous game that everyone has been requesting for years and is still, for some reason, MIA: Hollow Knight Silksong. The horrible vacuum of time we somewhat forgot about made a feature appearance at Gamescom, and the reception she got was what everyone anticipated. In the best way possible, an overwhelming amount of players erupted to say Silksong in the comments. “Of course Silksong!” alongside a hype gif was what Banff8041 said in his comment. Stream Hatchet told the entire chat, “Silkson all the way!!!!”—Close enough, we get what you meant. Even with other major titles being hyped up, users were not shy in saying, “Silksong and RE:9,” which was posted by UglyPicuna. While the preview for Team Cherry’s sequel craze was uncontested, it felt like we were all still waiting for a game that has been in production for decades. The numerous teasers made users want to play even more, and users really wanted to play.
It was not only Silksong that hyped up the audience. The Resident Evil franchise made a moving entrance as well. The latest from Capcom was demoed, and the hype turned to worry from people trying to crack a code of the new name, folks were calling it ‘Resident Evil 9’ and others were calling it ‘Resident Evil: Requiem.’ Regardless of the name, people were brimming with the feeling of anticipation and worry. “Resident Evil for me,” said tot_crypto, while GoNeuralAI simply tagged “Resident Evil 😎.” For the words of wisdom, LeCoq_79 “Resi9, even thou I’ll mostly be playing it from behind the sofa.” As insane as it might seem, I believe most people who enjoy the franchise genuinely feel the way LeCoq expressed. So, for the folks who liked the game, this seems like the most relatable and ever-remembered sentence. Coser_hotaru agreed, stating, “100000% Resident Evil Requiem. I can’t wait to play and watch people speedrun it later 🔥🥹” with the mixture of aforesaid ‘excitement and terror’ that Capcom had managed to bottle with this game.
Following this, the other games that earned some compliments were introduced. LedZepElias was the only one that seemed to shout for Squanch Games’ High on Life 2. “High on Life 2! LEZDUITTTT!!!” The first game was a bizarre, hilarious experience, so the sequel is expected to bring more intense fun and absurdity. On the cute side of things, UnclePudge_ stated, “I’ll be playing LEGO Batman first for sure!” Respect must be given to the love for the classic LEGO games. It is not only about hyperrealistic horror or grueling platformers; sometimes, you want to create things with LEGO bricks.
Of course, not every remark was related to games. It is the internet, after all. Several users jumped in to… well, roast Razer a little. EagleFangMaster crossed the line a bit, with “A product that works from Razer is something we should be hyped for but never the case…”. Which is, to put it plainly, not the nicest thing to say. Fatalution continued, in a little more, with a couple of links to articles talking about “public getting thrown under the bus”. Apart from that, the hype train did seem to have some protesters on the tracks, but, again, that’s the usual treatment of gamers on the internet.
Based on the comments, the perception of Gamescom 2025 was fairly positive. The main takeaway is that there were a couple of games that grabbed attention, the Hallow Knight: Silksong everyone was waiting for, and the next chapter of the renowned survival horror of Capcom. Different games appeal to different people, the indie darling everyone was rooting for and the massive franchise with chill-inducing delivery. There was even talk of people who “were just crazy about LEGO Batman,” which is completely valid. What truly distinguishes Gamescom is everyone feels they have something to look forward to. At least now, the excitement is legitimate and drawn from actual experiences. We are patiently waiting for the next reveal, which we are optimistic will be better. Don’t hesitate to tell us which game got you the most hyped. The conversation will grow, and you can engage with us on social media.
