Ever watch a movie and wonder, “How did this ever get made?” I recently saw Inside Fandom ask that question on Twitter, and the replies came in like a wave from gamers and boomers, both equally savage. The premise was “Delete one movie from existence,” to which they dumbed down to four of the most iconic superhero movies to help fuel the joke, and boy did it fuel the joke.

James Gunn Superman, Deadpool & Wolverine, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man: No Way Home were the options. Needless to say, the responses were dry and ruthless from the jump. Some of these absurd takes are cold to the core.

Let’s dive in with the destruction left behind the James Gunn Superman movie, which is now inevitably the most roasted project on this list. The response was pretty tame compared to how people felt, “erase it” was the most polite response. An especially insensitive tweet from @ITSKANG018 was that it was the “bigger disappointment for me”, a statement drowned in attitude and almost too over the top for a Twitter reply. And of course it’s trending, everyone and their mothers are reposting their takes on how “gamer culture straight up do not vibe” with the Superman movie.

Now onto the long overdue heat for Deadpool & Wolverine. The mere attempt to start discourse about this topic only fuels the mountain of shame it’s been sitting on for so long. Not to mention @SamiCarrothers, @TheGeekyDad93, @JultomtensNisse, and @tinseltown2025 piling on with the exact same take. The volume of “idk why people praise it so much” replies in the comment section, for my part, is over the top. That being said this version of the Merc with a Mouth and the Laundered Logan does have its critics.

Picking up the final piece of the superhero disappointment pie, the much-hated Fantastic Four didn’t go without criticism. “Fantastic four” was the one take @CunningSc175420 gave, which admittedly sounds like an avalanche of hate compressed into one sentence. @ComradeDave360 gave the “F4 1st Steps” launch attempt at the franchise and with the amount of mediocrity people keep throwing, it’s an impossible mess to keep track of.

Only one “sponge for the poor abused” Spider-Man: No Way Home from @N3RDYDC who just dropped “No way home.” The baffling part is the fact that the movie is the highest-grossing of all time, and the multiverse was the talk of the town. I guess not everyone was particularly fond of it, which is news to me.

Heck, a few were finished with the entire ordeal. “All four are trash” came from @Enokh26 which, honestly, word. @frostironat said, “I want to delete two,” which, while kind of cheating, is totally relatable. Like, why pick when you can remove several movies from existence right?

The thing that strikes me the most is the emotional investment people are putting in movies that deserve to be erased. This isn’t me casually disliking something – many of these responses feel like a vendetta. For example, @tinseltown2025 who is puzzled at the love of Deadpool & Wolverine, while @PersonaHearts5R added “We have better Superman movies anyway” with a gif of one of the older, probably better, ones.

This entire event shows the divide of fandom because of the superhero movies. There are several superhero movies released in a year and people get picky about which ones deserve to exist. Not to mention, the numerous reboots, and multiverses exploding, it’s difficult to keep track of what’s canon.

It’s concerning to note that the movies aren’t out yet! James Gunn’s Superman is still in production, Deadpool & Wolverine just released, and the new Fantastic Four is still being cast. Judging movies that haven’t even been released is a choice.

Let’s be real, it’s fandoms for you. You can never enjoy the silence of someone’s unfiltered opinions. The question of the hour is which movie would YOU rid from existence? I know I’d probably get rid of that one superhero movie that tried too hard to be dark and gritty but ended up just being depressing. I am talking about that one.

More people are voting, and this Twitter thread is still going. Honestly, I’m amazed by the level of passion comic book movie fans have. They talk about fictional characters, but the energy and emotions they have for the matter is real.

It’s silly, isn’t it? One person’s junk is another person’s prize. But it’s a bit amusing to see what movies gamers would actually wipe from existence if they had the power. I wonder what filmmakers think about this stuff.

If I were James Gunn, or anyone associated with these projects, I would definitely steer clear of Twitter for a while. The internet can be a ruthless and unforgiving place. But that’s the consequence of giving people the option to delete movies — they’ll actually tell you!
