This news announcement touches the topic that many fans have been eagerly waiting with bated breath. After so many delays, the Futurama skins are finally back in the Fortnite item shop. Yes, it’s been a whole year, folks! Since the last time we saw Fry, Leela, and Bender go on sale, the Fortnite community is crazed.
The famed Fortnite leaker took to Twitter and tweeted simply, “FUTURAMA RETURNS AFTER 1 YEAR,” linking to the skins. Being an Epic Partner seals his credibility, and he kindly reminded everyone to use the creator code HYPEX while purchasing the bundle.
The reactions were all across the spectrum, though some showed excitement. One of them, CelebriityCJ, commented, “Finally. I Had Bender For Awhile Now & Been Waiting To Get The Whole Bundle.” Talk about dedication in waiting for the whole set.
On the other hand are the confused lot. Someone in the replies kept saying things like “wait what?? I swear this was in the shop last month” and “didn’t it come back a few months ago 😔-no, The record-breaking numbers say these skins were last available 310 days ago. celesteheron1 tried to keep everybody honest with “Actually, 310 days,” which, quite precise, is probably correct.
There, however, are some folks out there doubly unhappy about this one, beginning to get angry about it being back in the shop. KnightOw7 replied, “Put it back in the vault. Futurama wasn’t missed,” and that stung. Schizophre34532 also chattered, “The only thing that was good about that was bender’s weapon,” which is true: Bender’s blaster is pretty cool.
And yet another controversy-shining one is about timing. When “Futurama popped up in the shop before the new Evie,” nameless_majin inquired, “Why is Epic like this? Wtf are we doing bro???” And who can argue? Epic’s rotations have been dubious lately, bringing the same skins back repeatedly.
Speaking of that, Claude_Sneed sums up fairly well what many players think about, “The shop has been nothing but the same skins over and over and over again.” It’s also true; we have had much recycle content just lately, so the return of Futurama after a year to some is a real breath of fresh air.
But this is where it becomes interesting: these kinds of mixed reactions really confirm how divided the Fortnite community remains over collaborations. Some players are laying some serious cash and V-Bucks into this one. juezxi, for one, is quite upfront: “I bought them as soon as the shop reset.”
Those in the same boat follow, with NFT_GOD_666 lamenting, “I have 0 V-Bucks now 🤣,” making their universal lament every Fortnite player utters when seeing something nice drop in the shop.
Years back,” many thought these skins were coming back more frequently-PurpleScales_ chimes in with “Wdym bro its out every month,” while Cocoyoyo999 says, “I remember that they would literally come back every month.” But the data do not lie; it has been a whole year, which makes this very major.
And now they are talking about the quality of the skins. MyNamesComics replied to somebody, “fry and leela look terrible. Everything else looks good,” which is subjective but is worth hearing. A lot of players definitely have an opinion about how the character models look.
What remains really cool to watch is some of the excitement those players are showing. The Futurama collab brought all of Bender’s catchphrases, emotes unique to him, and a vibe that is just working in Fortnite’s favor. It is one of those crossovers that works perfectly once one starts thinking about all the styles and humor meshing together.
Oddly enough, the replies are peppered with off-topic inquiries, like one asking about Metal Gear wave 2, while another is interested in some One Piece-related gig from a few months ago. Just standard Twitter mess surrounding any HYPEX post.
Others are feeling totally the financial pressure of this one. Edgemetax had one of the funniest comebacks to the “cheaper bundles” joke: “Oh my god 🤣 Buy this and stay poor forever,” which pretty much encapsulates the vibe.
Prior to this moment, it’s a big win for Futurama to be back into Fortnite, practically heralding how Epic’s going to begin bringing back older collabs that have been in demand ever since. Whereas there are some very irate players, there’s also a hardcore bunch who’ve been awaiting precisely this moment.
In an already stale shop with all the reruns; putting in something that hasn’t been out for over 300 days sounds like a pretty smart move. It’ll give those that missed it plenty of time to pick up these iconic characters and finally complete their collection.
Whether you are with the team that says, “Hand me the money already!” or the opposite team that says, “put it back in the vault,” this is one great change to something “new” in the item shop. Now, if only Epic would take care of actual gameplay problems instead of cycling through cosmetics… that’s an argument for another day.
For the time being, grab these if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting to grab Bender and the crew. When these will show up again could be a year from now, or it could be never ever-times that are just as mysterious as the Fortnite item shop rotation. Twenty points if you buy! Zero points if you don’t.
