There is a horror added to the world of Fortnite and the player base of that game has received the top-notch virtual character of horror that is Jason Voorhees in form of a horror game. The fans, besides the immediate purchases, have reacted in a number of ways ranging from skepticism, surprise, and a great deal of the general discussion around the release of the character in the game. The slasher villain who has become most representative of the horror genre has again been made available through the item shop in Fortnite and the discussion about it is really dominating even the buzz that it created.
So, what is this new skin? Is it Jason from the movie? Like, he is the one in the hockey mask and with the machete, right? He is now in the game, and if you happen to have some V-bucks, you also can get him. The price of the character pack which consists of skin, what seems to be an interactive backbling, two emotes, a wrap, and a pickaxe that lets you choose one out of three different styles is set at 3300 V-bucks. That is quite a lot of things under one bundle and the price seems to be okay for some players as you get so much.
But still, there are some people that are not totally convinced. Some online comments from gamers showed the entire spectrum of opinions. One of the users, for instance, who goes by the nickname ali bijm, said that he loves the movie but still thinks that “the skin is a mid skin” as a critique of the character. Kinda harsh. VanillaCyclone, on the other hand, very frankly described the skin as “bulls” and even used those emojis. Hence, there is no universal praise and also there is a guy called Timeless NBA Moments who simply stated “No one buying this,” which is really a strong statement considering the fact that some users have bought it almost instantly.
By the way, among those who bought the skin instantly were some players who didn’t even think about it for a second. The same thing happened to Jace, or MrGoodVsEvil, who tweeted, “I got his whole bundle so very quickly. In a matter of seconds.” Another player, Eduard River, who is also known as Batman_2020, just posted a picture showing the skin already in his locker and wrote “Got him.” So there are really committed fans—or players, should I say—who have been waiting for this moment and acting very quickly. UndeadTyrant1992 stated it was “3300 V-Bucks well spent,” thus some recognize its worth.
The discussion is also filled with entertaining confusion. A user, going by the name of ceecide_, asked, “is he related to Steven Universe?” This is very funny because, of course, Jason from Friday the 13th is not one of the Crystal Gems. Giving a literal explanation, that is a totally different universe. Then, there was Clippit who mentioned an NES Jason alternate style that would have been a nice tribute to the classic Nintendo game. Who knows—maybe Epic would pleasantly surprise us and add that later on?
I mean I was really shocked there for a moment. The character that is being discussed is Jason; he is wearing his usual outfit—the mask, the weapon, everything. Nevertheless, some players are already thinking of possible improvements. Gonzalez suggested, “Jason is X as a second style” referring to the leaked version of Jason from that one flick. That would be so cool, as they say. And derekpanaball broke down the price, stating that with the skin, two emotes, the backbling, the multi-style pickaxe, and the wrap one receives a fair package for the cost.
But there is still other Fortnite news coming up through the discussion. Smokzywafflez mentioned the “first ever mythical pump shotgun” which is found only in Blitz Royale, and that’s a separate topic but it indicates how much is going on in the game right now. It’s as if Epic has been aggressively pushing out content to the players, and they are trying to cope with the flow.
But on the other hand, Jason. His presence in Fortnite of such a gigantic horror personality is really a major event. It marks the continuation of the trend of the so-called crossovers with franchises of the highest caliber, ranging from films to comics, and it gives the users another opportunity to showcase their fandom in the game. The very fact that even some of the gamers who are into horror think the skin is “mid” or the mask is not “perfect,” does not make the presence of Jason any less exciting for horror fans. And with Halloween approaching, it is just the right moment for a slasher to gatecrash the party.
In conclusion, whether you choose to buy Jason or ignore him, this release proves that Fortnite’s item shop is still a center of hype and discussions. Gamers are ever ready to give their opinions, from immediate buying to negative reviews. Therefore, if you are a horror fan or just want a classic villain added to your collection, make a trip to the shop and see him before he disappears. It’s really hard to predict how long he will stay. Probably, he will return on Friday the 13th, but for the time being, he is here with the island becoming more perilous. PlayStation and Xbox players alike are joining the conversation.
