Turn 10 has finally dropped updates for the most recent Forza Motorsport. Typically, reactions boil down to being rather extraordinary. There’s the announcement of a new Logitech McLaren G Challenge Rivals event starting this week, Featured Tours, and a few reward cars going back to permanent status. On paper, that sounds fantastic, right? But to gamers, it is a big NO.
With the official Forza Motorsport tweet, the hype began to die down after “It’s time to hit the track!” Scroll down through the replies, just like watching an accident in real-time; gamers are truly pissed; they’re insulted.
The first thing that jumps out is: They want new tracks! Just that desperately. Rafael Francisco just straight up says, “WE WANT TRACKS, TRACKS, TRACKS!” in all caps because apparently, that is the level of grown frustration. Francisco Estrada goes on with the same demand of “We want COTA, Monza, Interlagos!” These would indeed be iconic real-world racing circuits that fans would kill to see for real in the game.
But it is not just the places that are missing. The complaints actually go much further than that. Draug published one of the more thorough responses that evidence community frustration: “We were promised ‘years’ of support for this game, and I paid full price in good faith, expecting all missing features and content to be added with time. But Microsoft has basically killed it in 1.5 years. I feel scammed.” Draug. Quite the heavy accusation right there. Do you think he is alone in his reasoning? No, with multiple people talking about feeling betrayed regarding how Forza Motorsport has been supported… or rather not supported.
About the technical ones, Neitorr69 says “Unlock 60 fps” regarding the frame rate and went on to criticize the physics engine, “designed in a old way, like 20 years ago.” They might just spill the tea: “50% are fired and deserved it.”
Wait, this is getting really specific-Hellosss wants “Random Weather in Endurance” races to provide “a more realistic and unpredictable experience in long-distance races” with dynamic weather changes based on probability percentages. That would be a great idea and would cherish the simulation aspect.
For simple clarity, John Max Manoy is asking, “Please confirm that here are no more content updates, such as new cars and tracks,” which seems to be the general consensus that everyone is assuming now.
It’s honestly just very tedious negativity. Leetorts73 says, “It’s time to find a new game…” and a reply comes, “Shame on you. I want a refund.” Myra says pretty much sums things up, “so the game is essentially dead, got it.”
Even positive comments are getting sucked into this. Bogie 19th states, “Awesome, thank you for all the updates!” SithMetal71 immediately asks, “Is anyone who plays/played this game remotely interested in these posts?” To which Bogie defends the updates by saying they’ve enjoyed them for years.
Perhaps the most telling is the squabble between Myra and others about whether the blame lies with Turn 10 or Microsoft. Myra says, “Microsoft and all the higher-ups responsible for abysmal support are the ones who have destroyed it, not T10 itself as they simply had lacking resources.” This indicates that developers might be trying to do their best with what they were given.
It’s a messy situation all over. At one side, you have this fresh McLaren challenge, which should excite one-Logitech-sponsored, McLaren cars, rivals’ events. That is the kind of content that usually gets racing game communities pumped.
Instead of excitement, we only get frustration about what’s NOT in the game rather than what IS being added.
Somewhat, the featured tours and returning reward cars are decent touches in that at least they provide players permanent access to something that might have been time-limited at some point. But when the community is begging for fundamental things like new tracks and better physics, it feels like lipstick on a pig.
What’s really interesting is how specific the requests are. It isn’t just “more content plz” – players are asking for particular tracks, weather systems, frame rate unlocks, and physics improvement. This is no casual audience-these are dedicated sim racing fans who know exactly what they want for their racing experience.
And the whole “built from the ground up” promise Turn 10 made keeps cropping up in criticisms. When players feel like the physics engine is not living up to modern state or the content support falls short from the promises, that “built from the ground up” tells nothing.
The whole scene reminds me of other live service games that promised and continued support but then failed. Gamers invest money and tons of time and emotional energy into those games, and when the support doesn’t meet developer-raised expectations, it can become huge.
Forza Motorsport has such a legacy, too-This isn’t some new IP struggling to find its feet, but a racing franchise that Microsoft has been pushing for ages. Which probably ends up making the disappointment harder to swallow for longtime fans.
At the end of the day, the new McLaren challenge will be fun for players that are still vaguely interested in the game. Judging by the Twitter response, Turn 10 and Microsoft are in for some serious community repair work if they want to regain their trust, and maybe the time has come to start listening to those track requests.
