The Fortnite Winterfest 2025 cosmetics are now officially confirmed as in-game items that were datamined and revealed by the ever-reliable HYPEX. Are these Winterfest celebrations, a yearly large-scale event where Epic Games distributes among players and the whole community festive skins, backblings, and free gifts? The current year’s loot has come, and the people’s verdict… let us say it is not hot but rather cold. A little summary for those who are only watching the headlines: Fortnite Winterfest 2025 update has been installed and is now providing a new variety of holiday-themed cosmetics in the game files. However, players’ feedback on social media is not only through the roof but also very negative, to the point that many of them brand it the ‘worst Winterfest ever’ due to the skins being unfamiliar and the content being recycled, which has led to a lot of disappointment three days before Christmas.
To begin with, the reaction from the public is very negative. It would only be necessary to refer to the comments to substantiate this. One gamer, Zya, was very frank and even came up with such a dark characterization as ‘The worst winterfest ever.’ His/her main argument was: ‘3 of the SAME SKINS that were already released early this year instead of putting in effort to make NEW SKINs.’
That was quite a hit! That opinion was, indeed, very much supported. Another player on the list of complainers – Leon_05 – took a very brief way of expressing his disappointment by just saying ‘That’s all? Actually the worst winterfest yet imo.’ Plus, a user under the name of π§ was too direct to say anything other than ‘so bad π.’ In short, the first impressions are really harsh.
The players seem to be most upset about the content being repeated. They had expected total new, something never-seen-before, holiday-themed costumes and the datamine shows that a lot of the planned stuff is either rehashed or simply not up to their expectations.
One user, David Mcmaster, seemed to be questioning if it was the end of the world when he asked, ‘Is this all of the skins None of the concept ski women in beanies made it? they were the cooler of the lot…!’ So there is this sentiment that the cooler ideas were overlooked. And where is the Grinch? Another user, Yeee, lamented, ‘Another year without the grinch….’ Apparently, it has become a habit to call for him and to face disappointment every year.
However, it is not all doom and gloom! A few players did manage to find the silver lining. The user πβ₯πβ₯πβ₯π₯β₯πβ₯ said, ‘Those Cosmetics look pretty epic.’ While PSS remarked, ‘These new winter skins look great and definitely have me excited for the holiday season βοΈ β¨.’ Therefore, there are still some people who like the new looks! Furthermore, the datamine uncovered some revivals of classic items like the Chocolate Frog backbling, which made player xoxodollyyy excitedly asking, ‘Wait so we can still get the chocolate frog backbling.???? Just have to pay for it.?? π’
But wait there is more to the confusion. The update itself apparently caused some weird technical problems. Players were saying that they had to download huge (like 80+ gigabytes) files, which then turned out to be just visual glitches. Mo tried to troubleshoot the issue himself and with others, he was asking, ‘How is it 23% when only 600mb is downloaded? maybe its just a visual glitch.’
And then there were questions about the event and whether it would be held or not. J A N N A H asked, ‘Where is the winterfest? Itβs not in the game yet?’ which implies that even though the cosmetics are in the files, the actual in-game event hub may not be up and running. And Kels took the opportunity to ask ‘Where is the 5-player squads? Wasnβt that getting introduced in this update?’ So there are quite a few features that players thought were coming but might actually be missing in action.
The debate also included those things that are not there. A Harry Potter skin could have been done, as per BriceaVision, No Sabrina, Miku, Lexa, and Kitsune skins were never requested and bee! just mentioned that. And there are definitely no Bleach skins, which were requested by Salamanca Money. It’s as if it’s a holiday wishlist where Santa accidentally forgot, um, 90% of the items. The prevailing view seems to be that Epic might have exhausted all its creative juices laid down in the massive Halloween Fortnitemares event and left Winterfests a little sparse
