Fortnite was huge news, revving up players, indeed! The Summer Road Trip event is now live, with ducks ready to be unlocked-the mighty swooshy Corvette ZR1. But, of course, you need to party for the vehicle. This is one more round of Epic Games’ double down on “play with friends” philosophy. Suffice it to say, some players weren’t all that thrilled.
The event was teased not too heavily by the official Fortnite Twitter account with a hype video showing the ZR1 in its entirety flashing decals saying, “Speed demon, this is the car for you.” The car is awarded for doing challenges throughout Summer Road Trip, which is Fortnite lingo for “get your squad together or miss out.”
Oh, the replies just exploded. The ones thrilled tipped with delight because last year, the Tesla, now a ZR1? Thrill spots. Others not so much. The usual suspects appeared in the comment section: Solo players groaning about the forced team-ups; meme lords demanding more bird skins (Seriously! What is the bird obsession anyway?); and the disruptors asking, “Where’s Master Chief?” Classic Fortnite Twitter mayhem.
A player simply said in all caps, I. DON’T. HAVE. FRIENDS., which may be true for him/her. Another compared it to the CyberTruck event where all the solo players got left behind. Then one’s keeping track of how long agatha has been leaving the item shop (it’s 75 days already).
There were also a couple of praises here and there for certain things. A couple of players mentioned that ZR1 looked insane, especially after last year’s Tesla. Then the Spanish-speaking squad came forth to clear things up-and that decal is exclusive for the ZR1-only, so the rest is probably going to hit the shop sometime later.
Part of the event looks like it’s one part race challenges and one part good old Fortnite craziness. So if it’s anything like the previous Party Up, then maybe get ready for some grind-although this time the reward is a real muscle car and not another glider reskin, at least.
And, of course, no update can ever come without mutterings. Fix the Havana emote loop! Bring back OG Fortnite! Add Tsuyu Asui! (Been going for about 389 days, at least, from that one diehard gamer).
At least, together with this, the verdict has to be such: If you got a squad, no questions asked. Lone wolf? Time to hit LFG or resign to a garage without the ZR1. Either way, Fortnite is staying strong with the summer vibes—even with half of the community outright screaming about bird skins.
Also, I mean, hey, at least it’s not another SUV selling for 1,800 V-Bucks.
