So yeah, Fortnite players, get ready because Patrick Mahomes is making his way back into the item shop. Since the skin of the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs is returning, there are lots of reasons that keep it on people’s lips. Some are hyped, but a huge mass is not. That seems to go with every collaboration, won’t it?
This happened when a well-known Fortnite leaker and insider ShiinaBR took to his Twitter to say, “Patrick Mahomes returns tonight,” followed by an egg emoji and a link. Replies erupted immediately with a range of flood reactions-from pure hype to utter confusion and even plain hate for the skin itself.
One of the very first people to reply pointed out Mahomes’ birthday is actually tomorrow, so maybe this is a birthday celebration from Epic Games. That actually makes sense? Birthday celebration for real? Whereas, then you will have people just saying straight up “Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs so buns,” which is…not a compliment by any sort of measure. And @ChrisTheKing44 laughed at the timing, saying “Ahahahaha after his pathetic losing streak” – which, okay, fair, the Chiefs did start the season 0-2, so that’s a rough look.
Actually, it’s not about Mahomes alone. The attention is split with players speculating about where other highly requested skins might be. Like @jules123455564 asking “What happend to polo😭” – referring to the Polo G skin that still has yet to drop. Then @LordShadow0210 was not happy, saying “They really pulling out anything from the dumpster instead of adding Halloween skins or One Piece🥀”. That does sting.
Then there’s the whole Marvel thing. @minitanou asked, “No more Marvel?” which is a valid question, given the number of Marvel skins in the game. Then @ct0Paa wondered about “X men skins?” – where(x) are they, Epic? While @Blademaster__X was eager for “I want PRODIGY!” which is…a deep cut, but hey, everyone’s got their favorites.
Some are totally burnt out on the whole thing. @MudArcade called it a “Poop shop… caca💩” which is…graphic. And then @abcd15361 summed it up as “Everything but not polo” – which is a sentiment heard around from at least a small part of the community. And @nameless_majin went one worse by threatening, “I’m going to set a car on fire if this who ass nobody ass skin returns but Evie doesn’t drop.” Okay, maybe don’t do that, but we feel the frustration.
But it’s not all negative. @farm_ion had a more positive take, saying, “Football feels different when Mahomes is on the field 🏈” – which for NFL fans is, in fact, true, and maybe that translates to Fortnite for some. And @Anthony88757741 defended him against some of that trash talk, saying, “df that’s my QB alldayy 🤣🤣” – so there really are Mahomes stans out there ready to cop the skin.
This whole event just shows how divided this Fortnite community can be about these crossovers and collaborations. Some people love the NFL stuff; others want more anime or music collabs. @Thepikagamer6 remarked that they “could have picked the kid laroi and some other stuff” instead. And @melo410800 is still waiting for Sonic and questioning, “WHERE IS SONIC SHIINA I KNOW YOU KNOW” – which, same, honestly.
At the end of the day, whether you’re stoked for Mahomes or not, it’s another day in the life of the Fortnite item shop. Epic is mixing it up, hitting half the time, missing the other half, but constantly keeping us on our toes. So with the season ongoing, who knows what else they have packed away for us? Maybe we’ll see Polo G next week. Or Sonic. Or, hell, more football stars. Because why not.
