This pickaxe really just broke the internet, with all the Mr. Fantastic jokes being made. Wensoing’s tweet showed what is clearly a crazy pickaxe that could only be termed as fantastic. Okay, we are really running out of ways to continue a silly pun train. At least, something that looks like it came straight out of the elongated limbs of Reed Richards has generated some pure gold reactions.
For one thing, the pickaxe is just a giant fist. An idea that maybe Mr. Fantastic is now punching his way through harvesting materials as opposed to using a proper tool. Some players have already dubbed it the Maker pickaxe, after the evil incarnation of Reed Richards in the comics, while the others have just been whisked away with “How did they make a fist an actual harvesting tool at Epic?” Innovation, people.
But the real fun is in the replies. The account of Reed Richards (yep, someone has been role-playing as the stretchy genius) instantly chimed in with “Buy me guys…” which… mood. Then we see the classic “I’m not gonna say it” from ViceXXII, because of course, someone had to hold back the obvious joke. Spoiler: Everyone did the joke.
BePickle suggested that it could really sync up well with Winter Soldier, which – okay yeah, that is a solid combo. Imagine Bucky swinging this bad boy alongside his metal arm. And then comes Guti with a “Maybe a little ‘fantastic'” because subtlety is dead and we are embracing its death.
Now comes the question of the pickaxe being reactive. Does it stretch on the lines of Reed’s powers? SicktyStacks insisted that it does: “Built into his arm and stretched out,” with others stepping up to disagree, “Bruh, it’s just a fist.” You can’t fault them for hoping, though. Fortnite’s reactive skins are usually dope; a stretching pickaxe wouldn’t be too far off.
And let us not forget THUNDER BOLT let us reminisce with a reminder about the Hulk Smashers—remember those? Exactly. They were huge for about two weeks before veering into the Vault of Forgotten Collaborations. Will this pickaxe be sharing a similar fate? Probably. But, for now, it rules the talk of the island.
That is just kind of how Fortnite‘s going again. A strange, somewhat funny item so weirdly upbeat that everyone made the same joke about it. Will it impact anything in-game? No. Is it funny? Certainly. And that’s all we ever ask for. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be testing whether or not it stretches… (Spoiler: It doesn’t.)
