Epic Games just released new Blitz Mobile Cup rewards for Fortnite, and the people are NOT thrilled. Starting Wednesday, the Woven Fang Pickaxe and Leopard’s Hoard Backbling can be obtained yet only in mobile-only tournaments. And that is currently the community divider.
What is going on here? Fortnite’s competitive outlet @FNCompetitive had dropped these leopard-print items on Twitter, looking pretty cool, but the comment section became a riot in minutes, with thousands of gamers calling Epic Games out for keeping neat cosmetics behind a platform that is not universally accessible. Do you recall when Fortnite was kicked off from Apple’s App Store? That legal proceeding has locked iPhone users entirely out of mobile tournaments. And Android users must have very specific devices for the game to run well. So, in layman’s terms, that means a big chunk of the player base cannot participate.
@Joelteon_07 put it best: “Bro, can we stop with the mobile shit? If not every player can do it, they shouldn’t give free rewards for cups not everyone can win… I shouldn’t have to spend a thousand bucks to play Fortnite mobile cups.” And they’re right. Like why should somebody need to buy a separate device just to get rewarded in these tournaments? It doesn’t really feel right.
@elka_ shouted, “NO MORE MOBILE CUPS UNTIL EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE! If you are Canadian and on Apple you’re screwed and this is wildly UNFAIR!” So therefore, these regional blocking issues just add an additional layer of mess. Some regions don’t have access to mobile Fortnite, and the players from there just have to watch these cups go down with no option to partake. It’s like being invited to a party with a locked door!
But wait; this is about to get even messier. Some were asking about previous rewards, asking if those were still available. I thought the Corvo backbling was obtainable until the end of October??? Meanwhile, the communication has yet to hit out from anywhere. Epic’s communication for these limited-time events has always been… let’s say inconsistent. I swear, players have to search through multiple platforms of social media just to get a glimpse into some solid info on the compensation for tournament and event timelines. So much; so little.
Not everyone was against mobile cups, though. @ButterflyAlonna was trying to console @banamnanbobross, garagingly for missing out: “No taco I love them they’re easier to get attire for up coming skins. Just use an iPad with a controller or any tablet path a controller.” So some players are circumventing the issue using a tablet and a controller. But hey, you are going to have to shell out for the hardware yourself. No accessibility is advertised.
Now, the technical problems only pile on. @NQTVFN was complaining about slow downloads on the mobile version, and Epic’s classic response was to instruct, “turn your router off for 30 seconds.” Can you believe it? Meanwhile, the game is eating up a great deal of storage space. “@iLatrell62 replied, “You ain’t lying taking too much space on my phone.” Fortnite mobile is something near and over 10 GB, which is insane for a phone storage system.
It’s quite maybe split on reactions, though. Some competitive players, among them @sandrischgaming, have taken posted points: “Easy 😎.” On the other hand, casual players feel excluded. @Jtagentil_99 advised, “Honestly let us earn account levels to get the rewards instead of a mobile cup”—which honestly makes sense? Like, why not make these cosmetics available through multiple methods so everyone has a chance?
Then there’s the entire fallout stemming from the Apple vs. Epic lawsuit. That situation is probably the main reason Fortnite mobile doesn’t exist on iPhone. As a consequence, with every mobile-only cup, millions of players get left out just because of what phone they choose. That is an unwelcoming feeling for any player seeing those cool leopard-print items suddenly become utterly unreachable.
Weirdly enough, because cat-themed goodies are coming at a time while players are wanting to ask about the previous rewards, “@LinIsCrazy” queried: “Can’t wait! Does this mean we will see Rosette Tigeress soon?? 👀” Subsequent to which might well be the building of an entire animal-themed set.
End of the day, Fortnite players want these cool things accessible to everyone. The Woven Fang Pickaxe and Leopard’s Hoard Backbling look crazy, leopard patterns, much snappy designs and well worth grinding for. But locking them behind mobile-only tournaments when a major chunk of the community is not able to take part? Splitting hairs unnecessarily. Epic has always had a problem with platform-exclusive content, but this one does hurt more because it concerns competitive rewards rather than just shop items.
Perhaps the solution is what a few players have suggested – make these rewards obtainable from different sources. Keep the mobile cups for those who can play them but offer alternatives for the rest to obtain the cosmetics via account level milestones, special challenges or anything that does not require specific bit of hardware. Now, these leopard print items are creating more problems than joy and that’s never good for an in-game community anyway. The Blitz Mobile Cup begins Wednesday and some players will definitely be grinding for the rewards while many others will be standing from the sideline, annoyed that they can’t partake.
