Epic Games has incorporated the latest Leviathan Jr. Sidekick cosmetic into Fortnite which is a miniature pet version of the very popular Leviathan skin. It is now on sale at 1,000 V-Bucks in the item shop. ShiinaBR’s leak sparked immediate reactions from players, with a lot of them expressing their bewilderment over the release of this fish-themed sidekick instead of a much-awaited cat sidekick which had been rumored for weeks.
Therefore, the new Leviathan Jr. Sidekick has come to the game Fortnite. The item shop price of 1,000 V-Bucks is quite a substantial talking point by itself. But the reality is that the other side of the story is the little fish taking turns with the limelight; the players in the replies are just about saying aloud, ‘WHERE IS THE CAT?!’
There was no beating around the bush with the tweet from the trustworthy source ShiinaBR that merely said: ‘NEW LEVIATHAN JR. SIDEKICK IS OUT NOW’ linking to where one could find it. It was clear-cut and sleek. However, the public’s reaction was the total opposite. Even before the commenting stream of people asking about the cat sidekick could exhaust itself, it was already going on and on. For the user ‘gingy 🍭,’ the comment was very clear: ‘WE DONT WANT THIS HOE WHERE IS THE CAT.’ And Emberleigh just showed her bewilderment: ‘Why not the cat? Who tf wants this fish.’ The demand is loud, and the choice by Epic to release this aquatic buddy first is certainly puzzling for a number of players.
Let’s now turn our attention to the sidekick that did drop. The fish offered was Leviathan Jr.—oh! The little guy. User ‘𝗟⃥𝗜⃥𝗕⃥𝗥⃥𝗘⃥’ summed it up nicely, saying ‘This little dude may be the funniest sidekick they’ve released in a while. Fortnite never gets short of wild ideas.’ And they are right! It is a mini version of the full Leviathan skin which is already a very wacky design. It has the same silly, almost wincing face. Some players even went as far as to make fun of its looks. Lordof_thebread posted a photoshop of the sidekick in a tuxedo, and media_trex agreed, calling it the ‘Smartest bot’. Death_flips referred to it as ‘Looks like Quentin Tarantino’ and that is…a take for sure.
Apart from that, there is the price issue. User SUCHATYR4NT noted that at 1,000 V-Bucks, ‘and it’s only 1000…are they actually lowering the prices???’. This sparked a small debate in the comments section. AtomicNofy, opposing that thought, said that sidekicks ‘should really only be like 500-800’ and that 1,000 only seems to be cheap because Epic ‘has vastly overpriced them’ in the past. Dobe46_streams also shared his view that it’s ‘Still too much imo,’ while TiggyTheWolf__ argued that they would be fine with 1k if Epic removed all the locked styles on sidekicks. So, indeed, the pricing strategy for these little back bling pets is still a matter of active discussion.
Returning to the cat issue. Or, more precisely, the absence of a cat. That’s what the replies are about. _REFN_ bellows ‘WHERE IS THE CAT’. TheTickleMonster poses the question ‘When are cats releasing??’. Firas begs ‘can we get the cat sidekick now please’ and adds a cat emoji to his plea. Blockxs merely asks ‘Where’s the sidekick, tho,’ perhaps suggesting that to them Leviathan Jr. doesn’t count. The community’s longing for a cat companion appears to be a colossal force in the Fortnite community, maybe even more so than the miniature kaiju fish companion.
In the midst of the confusion, there were also some random snippets of information. Someone pointed out that a number of gladiator-themed items had appeared in the shop and speculated that this might be a hint to Kratos’ return. Another user reported a glitch related to a new PlayStation pack that accidentally displayed the wrong emote. And then there were the usually hopeful requests, such as one player who was speaking about a ‘tiny devourer sidekick with the polar peak castle on it’. The imagination is definitely limitless.
So what’s the deal? Epic Games presents this quirky, low-cost sidekick and the reaction is one of mild appreciation mixed with an enormous demand for something else. It’s a classic Fortnite scenario. The shop rotations remain a mystery, and the players’ demands do not always align with Epic’s release schedule. The cat sidekick could be here tomorrow or it might take weeks till the next major update for the popular battle royale mode. In the meantime, players on Xbox and other platforms will just have to keep checking the item shop.
