Something special is never missed at the item shop-a shriek from a time-of-this-one good old memory. The very underrated emote for Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams’ “Get Lucky” is now out for purchase with really mixed reactions all over the internet. Pretty much a specific knock on the summer of 2013 vibe, and who would not want to keep dancing up those robotic moves while waiting for that battle bus?
Announcement broke the leak channels after ShiinaBR shared the news. The tweet was practically just a link to the Item shop with the hashtag of #EpicPartner. But the replies…well, that was where the real story was. It’s a wild amalgamation of excitement, humorous comments, and classic Fortnite cries for “more, more, more.”
The emote has been exciting from day one. “I need that emote” was the quote from Degens Journal, with TheAttackOrion adding: “My childhood…I NEED IT.” This is one of those iconic songs that just hits different, and having an emote where you do the signature Daft Punk helmet nod? Instant buy for most of us. Shoutout to kornfetti who just said, “I love it.” Perfect mood.
Oh, and then, came the witty one. PaulSD put in the ironic, low-key genius commentary: “The irony being you need someone that isn’t Thomas or Guy Man to start the emote since the emote starter is always the vocalist.” And he was right on the money! Whoever initiates the emote actually goes from their own voice singing Pharrell’s vocal part to the accompanist Daft Punk part. It is a pretty small detail, but shows if anything that Epic actually cared about it, and that is cool.
Almost every community request was present here. Northstarr suggested the enhancement of the emote in which anytime you perform it, you get a random instrument; that would be a neat little bit of variation. And then of course, here comes the saltty_bucket thinking about big stuff, “We need a Pharrell Williams skin.” I mean that hat? Would be so iconic, and I think he’s right.
And then wild things took over, as usual. Someone asked if Ghostbusters returns; another started requesting for a Ronald Reagan skin (???), and side-thread kicked off with users such as Cocoyoyo999 dropping those fire emojis and whatever seems to be an inside joke there. A beautiful mess of gaming Twitter, it makes for a fun atmosphere when following updates like these.
The emote is a continuing series event where Fortnite merges music and gaming culture. They did the same as Travis Scott and Ariana Grande, with Daft Punk now closing the gap for electronic music heritage. Though the duo has retired, their songs are eternal, and this is a brilliant choice to put them on the radar of the new generation of gamers. Talk about genius, fun, and scandal!
The other thing is how it feels like a little event because of the timing. The item shop will have its refresh; out comes something new and shiny; and, for a few hours, everyone’s gonna be doing the same emote in the pre-game lobby. It kind of forms a shared memory, a short-lived party before you drop in and duke it out for survival. Such social interactions really define the entire PlayStation experience besides all that shooting really.
So tonight if you log in, you know what to do. Go to the item shop, scroll through the emotes, and there it is for you. It’ll drain your pockets for a few V-Bucks, but for a slice of music history to vibe to after a Victory Royale? Seems fairly worth it. Tonight, the servers are probably going to be filled with people getting lucky in the most wholesome sense-but don’t forget to thank the bus driver on the way down!
