Fortnite players, get ready because, as is tradition, the prequel to Wailing Woods is getting its very own wrenching—the Wailing Wrenching, perhaps. The first lightning strike is in, and by my estimate, the cube should be spawning in less than a day. That’s right, the cube is back! Or is it a whole new cube? Nobody knows, but the hype is totally on point.
As always, it’s Fortnite’s most prominent leaker, HYPEX, who spilled the news. Though the only thing HYPEX’s tweet said was “FIRST LIGHTNING STRIKE — CUBE SPAWNS IN 24H” with an attached video of what looked like the sky, Fortnite slang communities exploded. What followed were countless, chaotic reactions.
The players are really losing it in the reply section. Nathalia Spade casually noting “Hyped today ❤️” which is honestly how I feel. But then ramosmaikel_45 chimes in with “The sky when it’s night instead of turning blue it turns red, ew, is that weird, right?” That actually does sound kind of creepy, now that I think about it. The sky turning red is a bit too much end-of-the-world vibes.
Then spiceeed says, “God OGs skybox is so oversaturated and blue you can tell the rift looks chopped,” which, to be honest, is kind of true. Fortnite visuals have always been different, but the vintage custom rift look was something else. The new Fortnite look is great, but sometimes you miss the classic visuals.
Wait, I’m still trying to figure out why some people are calling it Kevin — the original cube’s name — and others are calling it Revin, which, as they say, “makes sense since it’s red?” Then AndyCarreraYT comes in with “His name is Freddy (Or Fred) put some respect to his name,” which is just hilarious. The cube naming convention has always been chaotic and I’m here for it.
KO chilling with the “Revin is coming. Be prepared.” kind of chilling me out a bit, and Cryptoverse67 drops “the cube is the next gen,” which, I mean, maybe? Fortnite does have a thing for shaking things up, especially with these events.
Palm sharing the image of how big the lightning effect is is my favorite because, Hollywood cinematic event aside, it actually looks crazy. Weirdly, most of us probably thought the same as BayroneF when he said, “WTF is that.”
Then there are the actual concerns — glitsjeans wondering “When will the guided missile be out of the loot pool? OG is unplayable with that bs,” which makes sense, but like, we’ve got a cube event happening, dude! Priorities.
The nostalgia hits hard when Zayveeon Santos says “it’s crazy I’ve been following you since the first cube spawned🙏” which, honestly, same. Remember when Kevin first rolled around the map? That was, like, Chapter 1 Season 5? Time flies when you’re dealing with mysterious purple cubes.
IsooDaniell asks the more technical questions — “As each strike happens, does the duration of the lightning get longer? I remember it lasting a little longer the first time,” which is actually a really good point. Epic does love to ramp up their events. You can keep up with their latest updates on Epic Games.
Questions about timing — “When’s the next one?” and “When’s the next strike?” — keep popping up, signaling that people are ready for what’s next. KMCrypton calls out “Respawn time is insane,” and 24 hours is pretty decent for a cube spawn.
Everyone remembers, everyone imagines what the cube events were like. Everyone expects something really strange from Epic, and everyone shares the memories from the past. This is what really Fortnite stands out — the experience of collective people. They witness mystery unfolding live.
People are trying to guess, and it’s pretty fascinating how split everyone is on whether this is Kevin coming back or an entirely new character. The red color seems to hint at something new, but the cube shape is classic. Maybe it’s like Kevin’s evil cousin, dunking on the whole family. Revin does sound pretty catchy.
In typical Fortnite fashion, nothing comes in isolation. A single thing throws off a much bigger thing that evolves over weeks, or in some cases, months. Remember the whole zero point storyline? Or the mech vs monster battle? Epic definitely knows how to create anticipation.
To Fortnite new players, here’s why the cube is blowing everyone’s minds: the cube represents some of the most iconic moments in Fortnite history. The cube changes the map, adds mechanics, and shakes gameplay in unexpected ways. Remember the original Kevin cube? That was the time of floating islands, runes on the map, and weeks of mayhem.
With the 24-hour countdown, the assumption is that we will receive the new weapons, map changes, and any number of insane live events very soon.
What really makes the snapshots unique is their continuous and collective participation, revealing the levels of enthusiasm for ongoing developments or storylines. In today’s digital world, history can be rewritten with amazing ease, and Fortnite seems to be capitalizing heavily on new, and fresh imaginings integrated effortlessly into its gaming culture.
There’s a possibility of Revin, Freddy, Kevin, or another entity altogether. The good news is that the game will be exciting once again. For the ride we are all going, there is much more lightning to come for the umbrella part!
