The Fortnite item shop news today was a game changer for the players. The returning of two almost mythical cosmetics was the players’ long time wish. The shop reopened after 140 days for the Lexa Hexbringer skin and for the Buckled Bundle it was an even more dramatic return after a whopping 2,514 days. That’s nearly seven years for those who keep track that way at home.
The news came from the very trustworthy Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey, who not only announced the shop change but also included the current items link with it. Still, what was released is far less interesting than the noisy community reactions which were nothing less than chaotic.
The design of the skin is anime, Lexa Hexbringer being the character that has been loved ever since her first release and now, after a very pleasant break of 140 days, she is back. Not too wild, right? But the Buckled Bundle is totally opposite. These are the backpacks that were only seen before in 2017?? That’s like the Jurassic period for Fortnite. Reactions of the players varied from happiness to downright anger.
One player, renz88x, was not able to handle the news and let his excitement come out as: “NO WAY MY OG BACKBLINGS 😭😭😭” which, to be honest, is quite a mood. But then he quickly added: “I’m taking it off and finding a replacement since they’re not rare anymore” which is a typical Fortnite player behavior. In this community, the OG status obsession is very strong and when anything that has been away for so long comes back, people get very mad about their digital fashion losing its exclusivity.
But wait, more drama! A different player Legomaster555 remarked that the Downcard Protector Pickaxe which is being sold for only 300 V-Bucks sounded “way too cheap”? He speculated that “it is a mistake” and perhaps they are correct. The Fortnite store has had pricing blunders before, and when it happens, you must act fast to bag the deal before Epic corrects it.
Meanwhile, the store itself was not at all what everyone thought it would be. C0r3yFr4nk3 simply described it as “crap, only Lexa is good” which is harsh. And nameless_majin did not hold back and declared “I’m so bored of this fuck ass tab taking up space for what could be better skins” and illustrated it with a picture of the shop layout. The intolerant keeping of the specific items is very annoying especially when the shop just continues to send out the same old stuff.
At the same time, player BreadSazuu was talking about another skin – “Where is Spice?” probably because every player is anticipating something else in the item shop rotation. It seems Epic can never win, no matter what they put in, someone is always going to be upset that their preferred choice was not included.
The backpack problem reached the new heights of absurdity when IAMRETROTV quipped, “Damn, those backpacks are older than today’s players.” which, if you think about it, just might be a valid point? Fortnite’s time in the industry is long enough that players can be old who weren’t even there when those bags were first introduced. That’s hard to picture.
The whole matter of the Lexa skin flowed into the next debate – players Carnivexed and nameless_majin were discussing how to tell “an NPC or a child wearing the skin” which really says a lot about how some skins get… characters within the community. Some cosmetics only attract certain player types and everyone is conscious of that.
It is quite an interesting fact that the people have such diverse opinions about these comebacks. On one hand, there are players that are extremely satisfied with the return of the items they lost and on the other hand are those who are extremely furious that their “OG” status has been taken away. Moreover, there are still those who are just keep asking when their specific desired item would finally rotate back in. The shop drama continues and today’s news has re-confirmed that even after seven years, the Fortnite community is still just as passionate as ever about virtual cosmetics.
Now is the time to check the store if you want to take a look yourself, but the only concern is the longevity of such items. With the Buckled Bundle being away for such a long time, the next time we could see it could be in another seven years or even next week since Fortnite’s item shop rotation can sometimes be very tricky. In any case, discussion among the community will surely be there and reactions will probably range from sheer happiness to utter destruction over the bags. Only in Fortnite, folks. Only in Fortnite.
Speaking of gaming platforms, many players enjoy PlayStation for its exclusive titles, while others prefer the Xbox ecosystem for its Game Pass offerings.
