Just a few days ago, Epic Games lastly released another enormous piece of pop culture in Fortnite and they say that it complements the graphical interface very well. The official Fortnite account on Twitter announced that the iconic character Doc Brown along with the famous DeLorean Time Machine had landed on the island which also gave the long-awaited Back to the Future cooperation a green light. Not only will the players meet the physicist but they will also be given a chance to board the car that could easily be put alongside the light gun as one of the most iconic ones in the history of cinema.

The partnership that is built on movies of the past is one of the reasons Fortnite comes across as a digital plaything that easily surpasses all others. One moment you are fighting alongside Goku and the next you are constructing a castle next to a DeLorean. It is absolutely insane! The announcement was met with the same usual chaos and hype along with the requests and complaints that have become synonymous with the Fortnite community’s presence on social media. Among all these, the replies to the tweet show a more comprehensive and messier picture of the thrill that comes with a new skin drop.

The first thing that happened was the exhilarating atmosphere that was almost palpable. One user with the nickname ‘alphaw0lfen’ managed to convey it perfectly by saying, ‘God damn it, time to install the game again.’ That is how strong the pull of a good collaboration is; this one even pulls in the most detached players back to the game. Another user named ‘Leyton Brimfield’ humorously said, ‘Look doc! I’m cranking 90s!’ which makes you picture the inventor of the time machine with crazy hair having a blast while editing at very high speed. One more user named ‘RétroMan ⚡’ just stated his mood in a very common way, “I didn’t resist, I took everything,” while saying it in French.

However, there was also some negative feedback, which can be considered shadows in the Fortnite universe. Some of the players straight away mentioned technical and gameplay problems. One user ‘C🦕🎄’ claimed, ‘Hey but game keeps crashing!’ whereas another user ‘Chris Cooper’ was lamenting about a more fundamental problem: “You really need to sort this SBMM bullshit out, it’s really not fun any more.” The system of skill-based matchmaking has always been a major cause of concern for some of the users and these frustrations tend to come up again and again with each new content release.

The next discussion centered around the prices. The DeLorean is not a newcomer to the Epic universe as it has been one of the cars in Rocket League for years. The user ‘207nbrown’ made a shout-out pointing this out exclaiming, ‘Why so expensive? It was dirt cheap when it was first added to rocket league.’ A mini-thread started like fire where ‘ruusheur’ explained, frustrated that an old Rocket League pack was taken off and a more expensive Fortnite one was put on instead. It only serves to show that despite the fun, Fortnite is still a business and that players are professionals when it comes to valuation.

The requests, as always, came in an overwhelming manner. The community’s heart can be found here—a never-ending wishlist for the next big thing. ‘DoomyRei’ called for a Part II version of Doc Brown. ‘Ghz33’ went on a detailed pitch for another Dragon Ball wave with fusion emotes. ‘PleaseAddTsuyu’ in a very creative way continued their ‘Day 498’ campaign to add Tsuyu Asui from the animated series My Hero Academia. ‘BRING BACK THE SPIDER VERSE BUNDLE’ was in the 76th day of their demand. And ‘Thickbarbieboo’ made a heartwarming request for Code Lyoko. The whole thing is a beautiful yet chaotic mix of different fandoms that are all together venting their wishes into the same void hoping that Epic is listening.

There were, no doubts, some comments that were wonderfully specific and weird at the same time. ‘Zero Point’ stated he was ‘sad that he doesn’t have this style,’ and attached the image of Doc dressed in the 1950s manner. ‘Mohnet – Gaming.’ so precise, asked if Crew Pack owners would get a KIT backbling sidekick for free. And ‘yoonix94’ told a whole story about him having to refund the Daft Punk McLaren in Rocket League to have enough money for the DeLorean in Fortnite because of the cross-platform copyright mojo that got him into trouble. It’s the little, personal anecdotes that make everything feel so real, you know?

And, of course, you cannot just ignore bugs! ‘Lord Matty’ made a very simple request, ‘Please fix the stacking presents!’ A request that was festive yet very urgent.

So what can we conclude from all this? Another interesting topic is the viewing habits revealed in a wild Twitter poll about PlayStation and other platforms. Meanwhile, for Xbox gamers, there’s news about a sale they are unfortunately left out of.
