Once again, it seems like the media will have to deal with another character crossover when speaking about Fortnite! Just when things go quiet on the front of the crossover characters, they come up with yet another famous figure. Dr. Emmett Brown from the Back to the Future trilogy is the latest character to be introduced. HYPEX, the well-known leaker, as well as the original source, iannzits, has leaked a very clear image of the Fortnite Doc Brown skin online. And I must say the gamers’ reaction has been very loud.

If you have not been keeping track of the news, here is the very brief version: A leak from a high-quality render of the upcoming Doc Brown character skin for Fortnite has revealed to us a time-traveling scientist who is most lifelike and detailed of all besides been made very close to the original in all aspects. This skin is likely to be part of a major Back to the Future collaboration which will most probably include Marty McFly along with others. Gamers are very much intrigued, voicing their opinions on the design’s precision, and thinking about its release date and price range.

Now we will talk about the juicy parts. The image has been made public and the internet is crazy. The first wave of comments simply could not contain their excitement. ‘GREAT SCOTT! HE LOOKS AMAZING!!’ was the shout of one gamer, Zeropoint12874, which really does sum up about half of the responses. Another one, TanjiroAckerma, was doing the same with ‘GREAT SCOTT! Doc looks great now that we have a better image.’ It’s as if the thread has been allotted its official catchphrase or something.

But it was not all about quoting the movie again and again. Some players gave their praises in very specific ways. GAM3S.GG came straight to the point saying ‘Looks just like him,’ which is a huge compliment in the world of video game adaptations. Seahawkfan1108 was also in agreement and posted ‘He looks great!’ with a handful of fire emojis. Everyone is noticing the detail; the crazy white hair; the expressive eyebrows; the whole ‘brilliant but slightly unhinged’ vibe is just spot on. It is indeed a big difference as compared to some of the more stylized or cartoonish skins which have led to their own small debate.

One player, WTCHNetwork, pointed out an interesting thing with a hint of criticize. He called to mind the Telltale Games Back to the Future series and expressed his wish that Epic should have adopted a more cartoonish style like this one. Their reason was: ‘Have we ever really had such realistic designs before for Fortnite? Even John wick isn’t as detailed as this.’ And… they are not wrong? It really does make a mark. It brings up the question of art direction in games, you know? But then, another player, universe_u70293, caught a strange contradiction: ‘Wtf was with him in the item shop trailer? He looks perfect here! 👌’ Maybe the in-game model did have some problems during preview, but this render has restored faith.

Naturally, the first thing on people’s respective minds immediately following the leak was the practical questions. ‘Will he cost anything?’ was asked by pokemon06890060. Yeah, buddy, he is going to cost something, no doubt about it. This is Fortnite. ToastyRoastyBoy was more precise saying: ‘Do we have a price for the bundle? 👀’ No pricing has been revealed yet, but you can keep your last V-Buck bet that it’s going to be a top-quality item shop-pickup. And, speaking of V-Bucks, that section of replies had the same old random giveaway attempt; user canetheloser trying to hijack the hype to promote their own Christmas V-Bucks giveaway. A classic Twitter move.

Comparisons were already flying in. A few players instantly saw the likeness to Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty with nomnomnishii just commenting ‘Rick Sanchez’ and DavidSnoopy saying ‘But we already have Rick in Fortnite…’ It’s the white hair and the genius thing, I guess? But Doc has that 80s charm that Rick… decidedly lacks. Others had even more niche takes, like omega_striver who thought the model kind of looked like comedian Jeff Arcuri. I don’t really see it, but hey, art is subjective!

On the other side were the wish listers and the lore theorists. Phauwan wasn’t all that satisfied and expressed it by saying ‘kind of wish doc and marty had cowboy styles as well,’ alluding to their costumes from Back to the Future Part III. That’s a deep cut, and to be honest, a brilliant idea for additional edit styles.
