Those Fortnite players would want to buckle up for something a bit odd happened when Epic Games raised the difficulty grind on the Creative Summer Road Trip Quest. Previously requiring a mere 40,000 XP for completion, it was now an unbending barrier of 80,000 XP. Yes, you are reading it properly; that double hours of grind. The update was confirmed by the famous leaker iFireMonkey. The community reaction has been more or less… mixed.
So what goes down with this quest? The Creative Summer Road Trip is one of those seasonal challenges giving players the ability to unlock traded cosmetics. And obviously, Epic felt it was too easy. This change was implemented silently until the players cried foul as soon as they found out that the XP amount had increased from 40,000 to 80,000. Some users, like @FntBRS, maintained that it had been 80K since the start; meanwhile, another user named @lostnorf1 swore it was 60K earlier in the day. Isn’t it confusing?
Messy times will be ahead. XP tracking is troublesome. @barberpool187 stated that while grinding Typical Gamer’s Red vs. Blue mode, he was receiving no progress toward the quest. Meanwhile, @ShovelTrigger had to win double XP for the progress to actually count in Battle Royale. Classic Fortnite spaghetti code, isn’t it?
Then there is the STW debate. Lots of players, such as @Gamergoon88 and @SnoopCreature06, have been begging Epic to count STW XP toward the quest. Looks like for now only Creative and BR count, a downer for STW mains. @Mew2150 even called STW out as “comatose”—ouch, that hurts, but it’s honest.
Now if you’re doing the quest by yourself, think again, big time. @AaronHotch85785 gave a big hint: You have to be in a party with at least one other player, or your XP does not count. So either grab a friend or prepare to suffer quietly.
Why Epic decided to change it though… who really knows. @TAYEDCN flat-out questioned, “Why they keep changing it,” and truly? Mood. Maybe they realized players were finishing the quest too fast. Maybe it was a bug all along. Or maybe they just enjoy watching us suffer. Whatever the reason, the new 80K requirement is here to stay.
Where to next? If you are already at 40k, congrats; you have hit halfway. If not… Well, good luck. Either way, keep your eyes peeled for more follow-ups; with Fortnite, changes happen at something close to the speed of saying “patch notes.”
But hey! At least, it’s not again another unvault the drum gun scenario. Small victories, right?
(Seriously, Epic, just get STW fixed.)
