Epic Games unveiled yet another surprising collaboration that bizarrely yet somehow satisfies the Fortnite universe. Now it is clear why Fortnite is bringing in Beavis and Butthead this Friday. Along with the full package for 2800 V-Bucks (~$20), individual skins will be sold for 1500 V-Bucks, and pickaxes for 800 V-Bucks each. In addition, Beavis’s “I am Cornholio” emote goes for an extra 300 V-Bucks, while other emotes and backblings costing between 300 and 500 V-bucks are also on offer. The information came from SpushFNBR, a trustworthy Fortnite leaker, so it can be taken to be true.
The reactions? Oh, the reactions on Twitter are a whole kind of energy. “Big drop coming! Friday’s gonna be wild! 🔥🤘” and “Good, I will be buying the full bundle 😌.” both examples of Fortnite gamers’ excitement. On the other hand, it is also clear there is strong opposition to the addition, with someone named Ronald writing, “Ffs 😡😡😡😡now this game is going to be some cartoonish kids call of duty. We don’t want this in my manly game Fortnite.” As if anyone asked Ronald for his opinion; he clearly hasn’t experienced the other bizarre collabs as the game already has a theme park.
Then, there is the controversy about fitting, a user named Ayden Reynaert argued, “fortnite does make sense than call of duty in a way, but does epic realize what exactly goes on in the show? Kids should not be seeing this, all you do is look up the various memes (like sex ed meme).” Which makes some sense, because Beavis and Butthead is not a children’s show, the original being from the 90s; it is crude and funny, but it is adult content. The player base of Fortnite is… well it is everyone, so that is something to think about.
Psy_fly_butter stated, “Like mos all these kids will buy these skins, yet they don’t know the actual show or when it first aired.” Which is probably true, as many younger gamers might just see them as silly-looking guys without knowing the meaning behind it. But if it sparks their interest in old-school animation, that’s pretty cool.
A player also asked why the release is set for Friday instead of with the new season. Someone guessed it might be scheduled for that day to avoid clashing with the new chapter of Dead by Daylight. Which, might be. Epic is known to be calculated with their releases.
And obviously, the old “Who asked for this?” from CryptoBros. Several people replied to that, “Me!! I asked for it!! 💯” and “I did!” to be precise. So, apparently it was some people. Something like that thing you find out you don’t want until it’s announced.
That’s not all though. There’s also the matter with how this is priced. The bundle is expensive, and getting everything individually seems to cost far more, but alas, that’s Fortnite. The players are all too used to that model. The built-in emote though is a nice touch, giving you something extra with the Beavis skin.
The idea of the concept is what is most impressive in Fortnite. In no other game would it make sense to have with Michael Myers, a horror icon for example, and Beavis and Butt-Head, cartoon legends, at the same time. With the right expectations, this concept should fail, but as bizarre as it sounds, it doesn’t. Fortnite has so many strange things going on that players have no clue what to expect next and the mystery is what makes it charming, even though it annoys some people.
Nevertheless, the hype is real. The thread is filled with “Let’s go” and “Can’t wait” messages. It will undoubtedly be a great addition to the locker. You either win if you are an old fan of the show or if you overly appreciate the ridiculousness of it.
Prepare to assault the island in the quest for Cornholio this Friday, and do not forget to stock up on V-Bucks if you plan on purchasing the bundle. It might even introduce a new generation to 90’s MTV animation, which would be incredible.
Why was I bringing this up again? Right, Fortnite things. The date is Friday. Don’t miss it, or as Butthead would say, “be square or something.” Heh, heh, he said square.
