Epic really took a BOMB-mic; HYPEX tweeted about 16 hours ago that today, there would be a new update to Fortnite. Well, this revelation seems to have set the community ablaze with all sorts of guesses, hopes, and general chaos.

The tweet was pretty simple: acknowledgment and most importantly, a countdown. But it is the replies that carry the real story. Everything is thrown at the wall by the community; those makes sense on one hand to complete absurd collaborative fantasies. Like this one dude actually asking for a Boondocks collab? That would be absolutely crazy, yet, well.. never.

What is peculiar is how the community is split day and night on what they think they want. Some call for companions to finally be added, a feature that has been kinda sorta rumored for ages now. Others are worried about refunds for items removed in recent weeks. And there is the classic “Fortnite 2” comment that appears with every update announcement.

Isn’t this whole business going on in the replies, whereby people are arguing amongst themselves about how they didn’t know HYPEX was specifically an account geared for Fortnite leaks? What? How? Because the way I put it, one can’t really follow him and actually be oblivious at the same time. The roasting got in after that, though-that is a very trademark Twitter thing indeed.

And the others who are humorous-or at least would be to many-who claim their game is updating RIGHT NOW anyway, even though the tweet says “20 hours.” Time travelers, maybe? Or just premature excitement? Most likely the second one.

Then it’s the movement debate, some wishing for OG movement back while others stand resolute and say, “nah, that would feel terrible now that we’ve moved on.” Just going back and forth between nostalgia and forward momentum-a dance every live service game knows well.

And some there are in French; it’s always interesting to witness-the Fortnite community is certainly the world over. They’re discussing major updates and lore issues, which make me wonder whether this could be something bigger than another content drop.

Well, what is certain is downtime will be in about 16 hours from that tweet. Servers go down, patches go in, and we all go on refreshing Twitter for patch notes. The real question is: So, what do they have for us this time? More guns? Map changes? Or the silly ones-yet-to-be-realized companions that everyone keeps begging for?

I want a quality update. The game is feeling stale if I am completely honest. Maybe some new mechanics or even a new game type would help shake things up a bit. Though I fully expect yet another anime collab from Epic so soon after that.

Another interesting topic is the choice of timing. Middle of the week, while all these things usually happen on Tuesday, makes one speculate that this could be some kind of emergency fix or something addressing recent issues. Or maybe they’re just switching up their schedule; who knows.

Whatever it is, the hype real. Fortniters want nothing more than to align new content with their grind. Even if it’s just bug fixes and minor adjustments, the community finds a way to get excited. It’s just an ongoing.

So, put it on your calendars, set the alarm(s), and do whatever you need to do. New Fortnite content hits in the next few hours, countdown to maintenance and back with after we dare not guess. Typical Fortnite cycle but, well, we keep coming back for more.

We’ll just have to see what Epic has on offer this time. Speculating, after all, is half the fun, right? In fact, the other half sounds so unbelievable. That, in itself, was the journey of Fortnite.
