Fortnite just received yet another delay courtesy of Epic Games, and I can confidently say the players aren’t ecstatic with this news. The UEFN custom weapons feature, which promised to be a game changer for the tool, is pushed to early 2026. On top of this, custom items are now delayed to late 2025 along with the physics. I sincerely hope this “delay of delays” is an isolated incident, as it is absolutely not funny.
For those outside the Fortnite creator community, UEFN stands for Unreal Editor for Fortnite. This is meant to be a sophisticated tool for designing custom maps and game modes, but delays like these hardly motivate creators to design anything exciting. Custom weapons were meant to enable creators to construct weapons from scratch, not just simple reskins, complete with innovative mechanics. This feature could have revolutionised Creative mode, but now it seems unlikely that we will ever see it.
In short, the response has been a little bit of everything. Easily the most notable was a comment made by a player Rogue, “guys I don’t think these are ever gonna come out”, to which I unreservedly say that I agree. Along the same lines, another user Birdy said, “At this point, release it in Chapter 9 💀 ” which is, if we consider the Fortnite chapters, not that drastic of a say.
Of course, the comparison that is most made is the GTA 6 wait. Broadly, multiple people were saying, “we got GTA 6 before custom UEFN items” as well as “GTA 6 before custom guns.” And thinking about it, they might actually be kinda right? GTA 6 is indeed arriving fall 2025 quite a bit before the UEFN features and that is just wild.
Some players don’t really get what’s being delayed. “The hell does physics mean” is what Sylvy wrote, and I think it was an important question. In Fortnite Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), physics would mean the proper interaction and movement of objects in custom maps. It is indeed an important feature to do away with the clunkiness. But now, the creator foundation gets delayed even further.
Users are increasingly feeling like Fortnite is getting tired. In a tweet, GhostingItSlo remarked that, “Fortnite has gotten so tiresome it’s unreal.” That feeling only gets stronger with the continuous postponement of the tools that could reignite the game. In a different remark, another user named wbajay expressed, “Bro just scrap it atp. Been delayed for years now.” That, to me, seems to be the final straw of this disdain.
My favourite speculation as to why this is continually happening hasn’t been mentioned yet. ChrisiusX theorised, “i’m convinced they are delaying so they can build every cool new item before its gets to us.” Maybe Epic has balance concerns? If so, magicourpe pitched, “It might be a running joke at epic HQ” which… I really hope not.
The delays also throw a massive question mark over the future of UEFN seasons. Remember when Epic said a whole season would be made in UEFN? In response to the news, ArKane said, “yeah that aint happening” and you can’t really fault them for thinking that. How are you supposed to build a whole season around tools that aren’t even ready?
While some are opting to remain optimistic, some creators can’t help but voice their frustrations. For instance, Discipline X tweeted “More UEFN delays… stay strong! 💥,” which I suppose is a commendable mindset. However, with this ongoing wait, maintaining a positive outlook is a challenge.
All in all, UEFN is a staggering number of delays and it just so happens that this is one more to the growing list. I can’t help but feel like players have been waiting an eternity for these features because the delays feel endless. There was enthusiasm when custom weapons was first mentioned, but now there is only the settling in of exhausted disappointment.
In my view, Fortnite is the closest thing to a platform where a game can be played and created on at the same time— Epic Games is incredibility late on promised features. With Roblox and Minecraft advancing with their creative tools, Fortnite has to step up. Personally, I hope the early 2026 date sticks, but I do expect otherwise.
