Six years past, it was when Fortnite launched Season X-The season wherein all buyers were yelling at their screens, laughing madly through the utter chaos, and then rage-quit. The internet is in another uproar, not just because of the anniversary but also because people STILL cannot come to a consensus on whether this was in the List of Great Seasons or a Great Nightmare, mainly because of those damned %$# mechs.
Epic Games‘ tweet felt like a huge nostalgia bomb, and the replies were utter chaos. Some players called it the “worst season ever,” while others were quietly defending it like it was their firstborn child. Classic Fortnite community behavior!
Let’s go back a bit. Season X (or 10) was… well, something. It brought old locations with new crazy twists, objectively had the B.R.U.T.E. mechs (the most disliked vehicular creation in the history of Fortnite), and the battle pass skins? Ultima Knight, Catalyst-all names that used to sneeze,”laughter.” Oh, but we must mention rift zones, because nothing says, “fun” and “excitement” like getting grappling-locked into an area full of low gravity during an intense fight.
Now, onto the mechs. Oh boy. Those big ol’ death robots could erase whole squads in seconds, and the backlash was so loud that Epic were forced to nerf them halfway through the season. A few players, like @Holly_Takichild, went as far as to call it the “worst season ever” because of them. Meanwhile, @Claude_Sneed thought it was “overhated,” and @tgraybird admitted it was “great besides the mechs.” This is just Fortnite gamers being two-faced.
Here remain the nostalgia types. @Fortsnakeeyes dropped a throwback clip with the simple “Good times..,” while @gamingSeaTurtle started recounting the experience of winning their very first game before full force sack of mech age began. And @vantavexviper made it known how simultaneously great and painful is the fact that the iconic end event for Season X would be turning six years old in the not-too-distant future.
And things are about to get even more complicated. Others began debating World Cup qualifications (??), some random age verification (shout out to @itsjustneboxbox), and even weirdly debated whether Chapter 2 Season 6 was better versus all Chapter 1 seasons (enormous shout out to @enelifyyy for that spicy take).
Yeah, and then the mech stans kept fighting for their cause. @NKorompas was spamming links to petitions demanding B.R.U.T.E.s be brought back into Creative Mode, because some people legitimately miss getting stomped into the lobby. Wild.
Would you say it six years later? Season X was disordered; chaotic and unforgettable just like Fortnite-whether you may be for or against it, you cannot deny that it has left a big mark. And now that the OG modes comeback in 2026 (as per @Kermitx050204) is going around as a rumor, we are all just going to suffer this mech trauma all over once more.
Happy birthday, Season X, you beautiful, broken thing.
