There is one of the few annoyances for the Fortnite crowd to say the latest removal of auto-claim for Battle Pass rewards has caused waves of rage on social media. The auto-claim disposed of everything automatically as the player would level up, and then suddenly this was replaced by the “Claim All” button, and this is when all hell broke loose.
What did really happen? Well, the auto-claim was a very small, but greatly appreciated QoL (quality-of-life) addition that would save the user from going through an arduous process of going through every item to claim it. Now, instead of the rewards just popping into the player inventory, he needs to go to the Battle Pass tab and hit the Claim All button to unlock all rewards in one go. By merely saying that, one would expect it to be a trivial nuisance, but the uproar was indeed bizzare.
One player with the @Joelteon_07 username summed up the rage very well: “I really don’t understand why Epic gets off to stuff like this. They’re removing stuff for no reason. First rarities, then wall kicks and such and now this. Like, do they just enjoy their community getting pissed off?” Another expression of the same feelings was given by @__Mourning: “Why tf did they even remove it, so dumb.”
Some are glad that auto-claim met its death. Others, like @KeybladeScar, actually prefer to claim rewards manually: “If your talking about auto claim for me I hated that shit I don’t like claiming stuff right away if VBucks show up on the next page I can grab those before anything else.” Meanwhile, @Alecpheonix07 speculates that Indie might have removed it as a way of pushing the attention of more players towards Fortnite Crew subscriptions: “My guess it’s to advertise the other passes to you easier.”
Though the debate surely isn’t over. Other players noted that the “Claim All” button had actually been in the game a long time before the change, contributing to a feeling that the one-two punch of removing the auto-claim was utterly pointless. @Kevin_2347 chimed in with, “At least they added a claim all button or was that already in the game and I didn’t notice it?”
Aside conspiracy theory, some players believe that Epic keeps making small annoying changes either to entertain the players or maybe to irritate them enough so they keep playing. @torturecage joked, “Because people like claiming rewards before other ones? What question is this,” with @MistaBrandoVA continuing to mention another feature that should return: “I’ve been trying to get Epics attention to bring back the ‘mute others audio’ option back to the content creators section under audio.”
So will they be contradicting themselves and bring back auto-claim? Officially no, but with the new season going to drop any day now, fingers stay crossed for a last-minute backflip. Meanwhile, the fight goes on- whether people loved it or hated it, one thing we all know for sure is that the Fortnite community sure isn’t remaining silent.
We’ve got this “Claim All” button, so at least there’s that. Small victories, I guess? Or big losses, depending on who you ask. Either way, it just drives home yet one more time that even a tiny change has the power to ignite the biggest of controversies.
