A leak that was recently documented by @Egyptian_Leaker may either invoke a strong feeling of nostalgia or induce overwhelming frustration, depending on whom you ask. Epic Games might be making moves to bring back some of the quartz collaborations, and with crossover events from Marvel and Star Wars to boss events for Godzilla and even POI from Arkham City, the reactions have been… mixed at the very least.
While the survey was not officially confirmed to have been released by Epic, it did tantalize the idea of some resurrecting some of their past crossover seasons, limited-time events, even some well-loved bosses. These include a really big superhero bash in the Chapter 2 Season 4 of Marvel, a lightsaber-star Wars event, and the kaiju-vs-city kind of storming led by Godzilla on the map; the Arkham City-based Batman event could be thrown into the mix as well.
So, the matter has split the Fortnite player base in two: some are entirely thrilled at the possibility of these collabs being re-run or having a chance to partake for the first time; others are simply flat-out tired of the superhero and Star Wars spam.
@PsychoJune tweeted, “Marvel season return would heal me,” and @ValenceProto responded promptly, “We do not want this,” while @oceneys was downright rude, “enough super hero shit.” Ouch!
Now the exclusivity debate begins: Some like @Thepsychozombie say it is a “you problem” if you didn’t get in on past seasons; others like @PZR18 beg for their chance to grab skins like shredded Clark Kent and silver Iron Man.
Then you have the anime groups! @jr481700 demands: “Bring back Naruto and Attack on Titan,” echoed by @Camn5477: “Attack on Titan needs to come back for once.”
The grease in the wheels is that this possible support for old collabs could very well just be a clever money grab by Epic. As @Thepsychozombie put it very nicely, “The marathon of Marvel-and-Star-Wars stuff is probably because of the Disney deals.” To which @Meowdaru replied, “They can throw in a lot more out there that would still make a good profit.”
So what’s next? Once this survey comes through, it will become continuity of old content onslaught and would be returned with or without the player’s willingness to absorb… Maybe Epic will have a good laugh in doing it by adding some new tricks with new upgraded mechanics (shoutout to @realslimshailee who wants his Sovereign shotgun and weapon mod back). Or maybe the company will seriously consider those shouting for new crossovers.
One thing that will always be true: Fortnite has always been open to shaking things up. So retro season will be a hit or a miss, and that verdict will rely on the players.
At least we might actually get to see Nightwing standing for us, finally. (We see you, @mk_aln9.)
