The Fortnite community might be engaging in a whole new type of squad building, finding itself on the extremes of reaction; rumors have it that Epic Games might be running tests for the 6-person squad mode. The word was made known after the always reliable dataminers, @Loolo_WRLD and @BeastFNCreative, found some clues regarding the mode in the game files. While some gamers cannot wait for it to get released, others wonder why the addition is being done when features like trios for Ranked Zero Build are yet to see the light of day.
The thought already brings in the madness: Six-man squads storming into the endgame with sheer unfiltered mayhem as if it was a Michael Bay show. Numerous players are super hyped; others just say: “I don’t have enough friends for duos, let alone 6.”
With a competitive point of view, @TheSPLAGames asked: “Is this just gonna split the player base even more with endless queue times already?” We do have solo, duo, trio, squad, ranked, unranked, zero build, build mode-how many more variations can one game possibly have? Another reply by @KylmisX put it ironically: “And yet we can’t get trios and fill in ZB Ranked…these guys are clueless.”
Now comes the biggest concern: teammates. In the current state, squads can be a disaster with random strangers hiding behind bushes or just looting all game while you fight for your life. Imagine that with two more people doing whatever they want: @extrajoshmills put it perfectly: “Great, now instead of having to 1v4, I have to 1v6.”
So the questions about the very existence of the mode itself emerge. Is it going to be permanent? Will it be an LTM? Will it be ranked? Will it be Zero Build? @The_BDC97 speculates Epic is about to “implement a zero build, a ranked, and no-fill option so you can have the player base so split there’s 20-minute queues for everything.”
Then enter the real victims – the solo queue warriors. Put simply by @DaRealNateBM: “Fill is notoriously known for having people that leave… you have a death wish going into a fill lobby in 2025.”
With good players? 6-player squads can be a blast… if you have five others as friends. But for most out there: it could be an additional reason for chaos, waiting, and teammates walking away when down.
Speaking of when it might release: So far, there has been no confirmed date. Taking cues from previous updates by Epic, though, this is bound to come in a couple of weeks to be tested for a decision on whether to keep or ditch.
One thing’s for sure: Fortnite keeps evolving every tick-second, whether we want it to or not. So, with five friends… who actually has five friends they would trust to NOT throw the game?
