Epic Games really did pay heed to its promise of releasing the Mad Moxxi bundle in the Fortnite shop, but WOW, far fewer reactions to this had me scratching my hair. Being gifted the most famous bartender in Borderlands into the battle royale had almost half of the comments with no discussion about her at all?? The Fortnite fandom is split between insane hype and furious rage, and it’s nothing short of exciting to watch.
Well, for starters, just to tread in the bundle area, it’s Moxxi from Borderlands, duh! The bundle gave the skin of Moxxi, but did it guarantee back bling or a pickaxe? No one said, but an official tweet from Epic had gone ahead to give a direct link to the shop. And here comes the very interesting part…
While there are those going bonkers over this (“ME LESS GOOOO” punctuated by all caps) and, really, we share that sentiment with them, the other half of the players is using this announcement to bring up grievances with the game. And no, this is nothing about nitpick bugs.
Here goes this particularly passionate player named Mark Rivera: he goes off in full caps rant about the Save the World mode, the original PVE campaign people actually paid for. They’re screaming that expeditions are broken, that they’re getting rewarded with copper for high-level Twine missions (which is like getting common when you should be given legendary), and that launchers eat way too much ammo per shot. Maaan, FEIN OUT! He even threatens a class-action suit?? WOW, now that is something.
And there are more. Numerous other comments are straight-up disregarding Moxxi to lash out at STW. “WE PAID FOR THIS GAME AND YOU KEEP NERFING IT WHILE ENHANCING FREE GAMES ALL THE TIME” – source from one furious user. It is painfully clear that a group of the Fortnite community feels a hundred percent abandoned by Epic after focusing on Battle Royale and Creative.
Wait, going back to Moxxi herself- and not all giddiness for her, either. Some people think that she got… nerfed? FellowNick kept it simple: “She got nerfed,” and if anything that probably means that her design is less… generous… than her Borderlands counterpart. Town_of_Wolves called her lame, adding that they could have added “literally any other Borderlands character.” Meanwhile, Shipmaster117 will not purchase until Handsome Jack deals happen-and that’s fair.
Then is when the Price accusations get all out in all their glory. Crimson Reign was arguing with another user how these bundles have been worse value-wise over time as Epic is purposefully excluding stuff so that you have to pay more for everything.
KnifedByKang actually does have a point, though-it’s so true that there should be a 500 V-Bucks option instead of the lowest being 1000, because sometimes you just want one emote!
Immediately, one can expect the usual Fortnite-related remarks: Rue, please return; somebody else wants their d4vd emote deleted; and then BlakGamer64 hits, “No one cares,” followed by a laughing emoji. That is classic Twit.
What’s really fascinating is that this one cosmetic release has now become a lightning rod for all of Fortnite’s community issues. You’ve got the Battle Royale players wanting new content; STW players feeling neglected; cosmetic collectors debating value propositions; and everyone just screaming at each other in the replies. I sincerely believe that is a perfect microcosm for today’s gaming communities.
In any case, the Mad Moxxi bundle is now in the shop, which some will be buying the hell out of while others will be using it as a backdrop to protest various other more significant issues concerning the game. The Fortnite community is divided and passionate as ever, and honestly, I do not think that is going to change anytime soon. Whether you’re here for Moxxi or to rally against STW, you’ll find somebody close by nowadays willing to make some noise about Fortnite.
