Go crazy, because Fortnite may actually be more chaotic now—with rumors of proximity chat being introduced in Battle Royale, players are either hyped out of their minds or absolutely terrified of what may come. The news arrived courtesy of two reliable leakers Loolo_WRLD and Wensoing and absolutely sent the community spiraling into memes, euphoria, and a bit of dread.
So what are we talking about? For those who are unaware, proximity chat is a voice chat wherein you hear and talk with players around you in the game. No parties needed. It’s basically Warzone proximity voice chat but with the uniquely crazy Fortnite player base. Oh wow: that could be crazy.
Whatever it is, the responses from in player communities would be golden. @ClutchMeli said it was “ToXicccc,” more like in a good way. Meanwhile, another one predicted the inevitable, “Cant wait for people blasting slurs,” said @UltimateGamer34. And indeed, that’s just about it: Fortnite voice chat is going to be the Wild West.
@RealTrashay spurred memories of wild voice chat times in games: “Bro I remember that shit 😭😭 it’s gonna be chaos.” @ChrisiusX made a joke that the term “family friendly” is officially out of town.
But not everyone is sold with the idea. @ChairEater2 wondered if Epic would really allow uncensored voice chat in a game made for 12-year-olds; in stark contrast, @Gast said nonsensically, “They’re gonna censor things in a game rated 12? No way.”
Anyway, now content creators are dying to churn out hilarious viral content. @JohnWeb3Adeo tagged one big-time streamer @NickEh30, saying, “He’s going to be clipped like crazy 💀.” Indeed: proximity chat has been waiting to create content forever.
Before you totally lose your mind (or celebrate), though, it just might interest you to know this is one feature Epic has yet to confirm officially. Given the precision of the sources like @HYPEX, though, we are probably looking toward the sooner side. Another thing, @Grok also shared that this would probably be an opt-in or toggle-able system—so if you don’t want to hear a 12-year-old scream into the mic after headshotting you, you can just turn it off.
One thing for certain: If this dropped tomorrow, Fortnite lobbies would never be the same again. Whether that turns out to be good or bad, well… we’ll soon see.
So, ready for the chaos? Or are you already dreading a tsunami of voice chat trolling? Either way, keep your eyes nailed on an official announcement—because if this is real, things are going to get loud.
And hey, at least we will finally know what that default skin really thinks of your building skills.
(Oh, and if you were hoping for Power Ranger skins instead… sorry, @badnews, no word on those yet.)
