Correction: Xbox has issued a pre-order announcement for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Yeah, final – the one thousand-year-old PlayStation privilege is now being brought over to Xbox. That is, not simply the base, but Intergrade with Yuffie DLC! Double-headed adventure as the tweet says. So, pretty cool, isn’t it?
But man, the reply section is something rede bewildering. A drama unfolds therein. From those excited to finally play it on Xbox; for instance, BnBriTV stated, “Snatching this up day one,” xboxbrand101 commented, “Already done”. Then there is the whole other commentary that seemingly has nothing to do with Final Fantasy. People’ll mention Bethesda and something about Charlie Kirk? Wait-what was I saying? Oh right, Final Fantasy.
Anyway, so if you didn’t know, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is basically just the enhanced edition of the FF7 Remake that hit PS4 back in 2020. Enhanced graphics, enhanced loading, and INTERmission DLC episode of playing as Yuffie. If you never finished the game on PlayStation, definitely pick this one up.
Here’s the thing, though – a myriad of Xbox players have just grown a little salty with the whole issue. WhiteLionell is, for example, complaining about no physical edition, “No physical, no buy. I’ll be purchasing for Switch 2 instead.” Then there’s all sorts of bickering happening in the replies on whether the Switch 2 version would be any good anyway owing to the fact that it would require a 90GB download? That’s crazy big for a cartridge game.
And then follows DukePureEgg, “Eh gamepass it and I’ll consider playing a FF game haha,” very typical for Xbox players these days. They want everything on Game Pass. I can almost agree with that one though. Stealing $70 for a game that has been out for years on other platforms is pretty steep.
Interestingly, in those very replies, people began the discussion on platform loyalties and where to put the game. There is a whole thread spawned out of this with arguments about getting it on Xbox vs. waiting for other versions. For instance, Cygnelis711 asks if you get bonus items for having save data from the previous game if you play it on the same platform. That’s a good question. Would Xbox have any form of cross-save with the PlayStation or PC versions? Probably not, but it would be cool if it did.
MarkoFilthy85 then unleashes gold with the classic: “Xbox: flails arms ‘Ehhh, look!! FINAL FANTASY!! Everybody loves Final Fantasy, right!? Love you!'” That pretty much sums up the vibe of how Xbox has felt about these Japanese games lately. They are trying so hard to get that Final Fantasy money.
Amid all the gaming talk, this weird political thing pops up in the replies, which has nothing to do with Final Fantasy. People are talking about things that Bethesda employees did and some sort of controversy that I don’t even understand. Like BiermanSmit saying, “I will be canceling my GamePass due to Bethesda’s actions and the lack of accountability. These people want us dead”-I ask again-what the hell does that have to do with Final Fantasy? It looks like gamers are bringing their baggage everywhere.
Anyway, back to the actual game. For Xbox players who’ve been dying to get their hands on FF7 Remake since day one, this surely is huge. Upon its initial release, the game got reviews that lauded unique hybrid combat system between real-time-action and classic Final Fantasy menu commands. The story itself is expanded upon quite interestingly, which I won’t spoil for you.
Intergrade, for example, is like playing at 60fps and full 4K Res on Xbox Series X, which is aesthetically pleasing herself. And the Yuffie DLC is really good – about four to five hours of content that sets up some stuff for the next game in the remake series, Rebirth.
Speaking of which, with Rebirth right on its way, it is the perfect time for Xbox players to catch on. So, they will be able to play through Remake and the Yuffie DLC just in time for when Rebirth will actually come to Xbox too (which it most certainly will, given that they’re bringing this one over).
There are pre-orders open right now on the Xbox store, though I never heard about any special editions or anything; just the standard digital version. Nothing has been said about price-wise either, but I bet it will quite likely be $70 since this is a new release on the platform.
A couple of things about it making sense: it has never been such a long wait for the creators to bring it to Xbox so. Remake originally launched back in April 2020, so we’re almost 4 years late to this party. And yet, quite the game to wait this long on. Still, better late than never.
Since the tweet is up, reactions are mixed, ranging from hopeful fans to Game Pass beggars and physical editions purists to a few random people throwing unrelated drama into the mix.
Still, the more people who get to play fine games, the better. Though it took forever to get here, Xbox players’ turn has at last come to experience one of the best JRPGs in the last several years. This definitely is the best way to enjoy it, being a full-base package with DLC.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to see if I can fish out my old PlayStation save file… wait, what was I talking about again? Oh yeah, Final Fantasy. Anyways, if you’re on Xbox and haven’t played this yet, you should probably check it out. It’s pretty good, especially if you enjoy action RPGs.
