For almost three-odd years now, Final Fantasy XIV and really just about any other Square Enix game were supported by a sweeping lack of release dates until now. And now Square Enix has pushed back the launch date of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade multi-platform edition to January 22, 2026. Almost a year and a half must be quite long to wait in gamer time, but the exciting things is that it is in motion! There is still a long time to go during which time, the game will be released on the Xbox Series X-S and Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Xbox Play Anywhere.
The official Final Fantasy VII Twitter dropped some tips about the discovery of Midgar and the factions that breathe life into the story, which are fun. But even more important is the fact that this multi-platform release of the first installment of the remake series was originally a PS4 exclusive that came out in 2020, with an upgraded PS5 version arriving later in 2021 as Intergrade; now, everyone else can join the party.
There were hype and salt mixed in the replies, as expected. Some of the gamers were extremely excited at this announcement. Llamaturge revealed that today he is playing through FF2, hoping to be caught up by 2026; that’s dedication. Meanwhile, NintenGOD was hyping up Switch 2 Hybrid Powerhouse.
On the contrary, Blast_RPG bluntly stated, “Not a single release complete on disc/cart shame on you,” with emphasis on the word shame. Then, many Xbox people clamor for a physical release with emiya_ze and reignDKC both requesting “Physical release for Xbox please.” Meaning a digital release only for Xbox would be a shame for collectors.
“Differently does not clear things about what ‘as part of Xbox Play Anywhere’ actually means. A good statement worthy of being worth mentioning was made by bennijin:” “as part of Xbox” 🙂 “Play Anywhere” 🙁 Jk of course I’m buying it. So that might mean it might not be a full Play Anywhere title where you buy once and play on both Xbox and PC? Slightly fuzzy on the details.
Back to the remake trilogy debate. User Costello3D went in hard, saying, “This remake you churned out is dreadful” and articulates against it with Expedition 33 as how a proper JRPG with a world map and turn-based combat ought to be made. J19_Gaming89 interrupted again to defend the remake with, “Cry more as you are one of the minority who are loud and obnoxious.” Classic fan debate.
There are already players speculating about a Part 3. Samuel_0995 asks, “Any news about Part 3 soon?” while Palindrom0 offers improvement requests: “When you make part 3 please IMPROVE THE PHOTO MODE, and add LESS MINIGAMES.” It is definitely not an unreasonable request since the minigames in Rebirth were quite a lot.
Furthermore, SubjectPersonII heavily discussed the timing of a PS5 Pro upgrade since the PS5 Pro is rumored to come out around then. Then, naturally asking, the classic “What about Game Pass?” from OathKRoxas99: “What’s the possibility this coming to Game Pass next year.” I’d say pretty low since it’s a Square Enix title, but who knows.
And the game is very much getting a physical release on Switch, so perhaps that is some good news. Zanark has mentioned that there is a game keycard for it, better than nothing. But for Xbox, it’s digital only for a sad reason. Strange how that sometime works.
Then you have the tweet from Raiden1412: “Enfin! ça fait 20 ans que je l’attends votre remake de merde là,” which better translates to “Finally! I’ve been waiting 20 years for your shitty remake”. It is pretty harsh, but one can feel the frustration.
All-in-all, it is undoubtedly a significant point that FF7 Remake will finally be coming to more platforms. It is one of those games that ought to be everyone’s game to be playing, now having the chance for more people to get in. It is definitely a wait till 2026, but at least it is a sure thing hopefully, with news about Part 3 within reach. The entire remake project has been a wild ride so far, and it’s far from done. Right now, circle January 22, 2026, on your calendar as the date you will be finally allowed to visit Midgar on any platform you choose.
