The team from Bethesda sent out some cryptic tweet that stirred the excitement of Fallout players, having them convinced of the arrival of Season Two but only after a midnight stop at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Players conversing amongst themselves over an almost casual tweet that said something along the lines of “bring a Stimpak (because post-apocalyptic first-aid is never a bad idea!)”, thus generating much speculation. Is this just the smallest of hints toward new content at all? Or perhaps it’s just a surprise, ID-less drop? Or could it be that Bethesda is for once just being Bethesda, only now flaunting their flair for dramatic teasing?

Okie! But then the tweet does say much while being brief. “Time for a little road trip. Season Two is coming but first: a quick pit stop @gamescom #OpeningNightLive on Tuesday. Bring a Stimpak.” This line about bringing a Stimpak is what gets everybody excited and speculating. Some swear this is one of the corniest and most blatant references to health mechanics in the game that they could think of, and others believe it is a reference to something real coming to fruition. Anyway, this hype train has left the station at lightning speed.

The replies to the tweet are an odd mix of excitement, skepticism, and outright chaos. One user, @techagek, dug into Bethesda’s release schedule, pointing out that everything listed so far has come out (or been canceled, but hey, that’s gaming). They’re confident Fallout won’t get the axe, especially with the Oblivion remaster and Doom: The Dark Ages already out in the wild. Meanwhile, @anima_sola1 expressed dissatisfaction, bluntly telling Bethesda to “stay the fuck away from New Vegas with your slopfest.” Ouch. The love/hate relationship with New Vegas continues, apparently.

Marking this, @FoxsVault went ahead and into a thread about Vault-Tec’s nefarious corporate shenanigans, alleging that Bethesda’s version of the franchise has made the company “moronically evil” as opposed to the original games’ “retardedly evil” vibe. Deep cut for lore nerds, but there’s probably little Fallout fans take more seriously than their canon. And what about @LogicalError007? They are saying Todd Howard allegedly “hates New Vegas” and “destroyed the whole area in the show.” Drama? In my Fallout fandom? Always.

But not everybody’s salty. @alfonsuroj is hyped up, calling this whatever it is “peak incoming,” while @aiintactive just can’t wait. And @JoeBusch_ is already stanning Elle Purnell, the actress behind the show’s breakout character, dubbing her “CEO of Okey Dokey.” (If you know, you know.)

So what’s really going down at Gamescom? Bethesda is keeping it tight, but the Stimpak mention would lean toward something gameplay-related. Perhaps a new Fallout 76 update? Might Skip over an announcement for Fallout 5? Or maybe, just maybe—a remaster of Fallout 3 or New Vegas, as @asepirawan is begging with all their heart? That would break the damn internet, but let us not race ahead.

One thing though. Bethesda really does know how to stir the pot: two weeks of teasing new content, denying any possibility of a New Vegas remaster, then reminding everyone how bad Vault-Tec really is (in that tongue-in-cheek way). Just days from now, and with Gamescom Opening Night Live kicking off, the wait will be very short.

So restock on Stimpaks, friends. Something is happening, and if history is anything to go by, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride.
