Big FACEIT CS2 map pool changes are in the making, and the players- well, some might say- have not really been paying the emotional toll. The competitive platform just announced that the Overpass map will be brought back with great glory while Anubis gets thrown away. Those reactions!

So, here’s the story: a short-faced tweet announces it all: “Overpass returns, Anubis retires. The FACEIT map pool has been updated. Time to rethink your strats.” In other words: brief and to the point. Yet the community was anything but.

First of all, let’s talk about the players who went through the whole learning process for Anubis. Rotzloffel explained most perfectly: “i literally just learned new flashes and smokes in anubis for premier.” Oof! That has got to hurt. Imagine grinding out lineups only for that map to just disappear. VN0X Numberrrz also said, “I was starting to like Anubis (crying emoji)” – mood.

But it’s not all tears. Some are downright angry. OTyson10 ranted: “Why da fuck would you remove the best map in the map pool wtf.” Meanwhile, ThaaRojen called Anubis the “best map in the pool,” and Andreas Weble just went, “I was just getting good at Anubis too…” – feels bad, man.

The Overpass fellows do not intend to hold back. Paulius ‘pMpLT’ Mineika was full CAPS LOCK proclaiming, “OVERPASS BEST MAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” – dude, we get it, you’re excited. But some people aren’t having it. RUSH B APP said, “what’s wrong with Anubis? what’s NOT wrong with Overpass?” – direct hit.

Another thing people will never get over: Mirage. Samuel was very straightforward: “Fuck cs, still fucking mirage in the map pool.” BiT_92 responded to a suggestion that both maps should remain in rotation with “Should be -mirage.” The disdain for Mirage is mutual, but let’s be honest-it’s never going away.

Some players began envisioning a brighter future. Bollegah was nostalgic: “i miss the times when we had more maps than just active duty, was fun queueing cache or cobble.” Truuuuu. Remember when map rotation was a thing? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Speaking of match quality: Zdanuu threw some shade at FACEIT matchmaking: “Please give me more players with 50 hours in game and no microphone, the best matchmaking system.” Ouch. Dzanamana_ joined the pile-on: “Time to ban people who dont speakaswell.” Communication is key, people!

Then there was something about versions. ClashGG tweeted: “Please tell me it’s not this version,” with a link suggesting concern about whatever iteration of Overpass we’re getting. Then a follow-up: “Is it just me, or did Overpass look way different before it got re-added to the CS2 map pool?” – valid question.

As with every map-pool change, heated discussions break out immediately; this one is no exception. Some want Cache back(pedro borem AKA Pedroga with the simple “pls bro add cache too”), while others are shocked that Dust 2 actually survived (Rasmus Madsen: “Det eneste latterlige er at det ikke var d2 som røk ut….”-translation: “The only ridiculous thing is that it wasn’t d2 that got removed…”).

Map rotation is what keeps the game fresh at the end of the day, although it does anger a handful of players. Everybody is re-writing strat books, relearning lineups, and complaining all along. That’s CS2 for you.

One thing is for sure-these guys are back to camping in sewers: SKIN.CLUB: “welcome back, sewer campers.” And Overpass is somewhat famous for more, uh, unusual angles; let’s just rediscover them all again.

Be it to celebrate or mourn, one thing for sure is hitting the server browser and start rowing for Overpass angles. Meta is about to shift; only the adaptable could survive. Good luck there! And this time, please even remember to give your team-mates microphones.
