Gamers, brace yourselves because we are going to disclose the very latest happenings about the new universe RPG Exodus which is presently by far the hottest in the hearsay. The game can now be viewed on PSN, Xbox, Steam, and the Epic Games Store as “coming soon” and is already available for wishlist. The developers have also hinted that information and updates will be shared on the matter “later this year.” Thus, the waiting game continues, but at least we have this luxurious game in our digital carts and can indulge in fantasies.
What is the positive talk about Exodus? If you are a Mass Effect fanatic, then it is your turn to pay attention. The project leader, Chris King, consensually stated that Mass Effect was one of the primary inspirations, and that was pretty obvious! He then mentioned Horizon for the elemental powers and tools against specific enemies and Metroid Prime for the atmosphere of solitude and discovery. So we would have a mix of big space opera, tactical warfare, and wandering through a vast and enigmatic universe. Neat, huh?
Next, let us move to the coolest thing discussed so far, and that is the “Recycler.” It is your main weapon, the “base gun” of salvagers. And the good news is, you do not need to carry around a lot of ammo. Chris King said it could be likened to “like the flux capacitor from Back to the Future.” You can just take any scrap materials you find and put them in this device to get various resources. Furthermore, it can change into other guns too. So it’s like a multi-tool gun. That’s just… insane. Who would want to use a weapon when you could have a device that turns trash into energy?
The developer has insisted that players would have the opportunity to decide their fate throughout the game but in different ways; shooting, sneaking, talking, and avoiding enemies are some of the options. What an extensive range of reactions! The creators even went on to make sidekicks that support players not being seen, besides “a whole lot of cool gadgets in the player kit” for stealth players. Some of the AEGIS suits are stealth-oriented as well, but it is all your call. You can literally craft your playstyle which is always a plus.
The story revolves around a powerful technology that has been forsaken and is called “Remnants.” It is said to belong to Celestials and indeed you will be stumbled upon it everywhere. You will also be facing a dilemma regarding the use of this technology to take humans up the evolutionary ladder. They even gave a few names for these Remnants, such as “Relativistic Preditor,” “Proto-Matter,” and “Hell of Liquid Walls.” They refused to tell what they do and though it is quite annoying, at the same time, it is kind of building the hype, I guess. The main character, Jun, has a low-key upbringing and does not even know how powerful he is. The theme of the unsuspecting hero, though a bit clichéd down the ages, still has a nice ring to it.
They want the fight to be similar to an action sequence and require a bit of strategy, thus relying on the choice and player agency. They will make you feel on purpose by what you choose to use to win a battle. There will be an increase in the variety of opponents alongside your growth. You will encounter basic enemies, human groups, and Celestial constructs (essentially robots left behind to protect the ancient tech) on your home planet Lidon. It is only by getting close that they become really threatening hence the challenge step-up is quite well-designed.
And for the completionists, the alternative quests are taking place in a different plot area in the game and not just added as filler content. They will give you a feeling of immersing in the universe, forging relationships with your companions, acquiring skills, and according to their phrasing, “finding cool sht.” So, one could hope that they mean side content that is significant and not never-ending fetch quests.
Twitter reactions were as usual, mixed. While some were ecstatic, others didn’t show enthusiasm. One of the users, @PredsFanBrett33, couldn’t hide his excitement and said, “Been a long time since I’ve been this excited for a game.” The lore and the first Exodus novel that is going to have a sequel next year were even praised. Another user, @Timothy1395, said, “Everything I hear about this game and its lore is very interesting.” So, deep lore fans are now very pleased.
Yet there is still some doubt. @Hanindito_S_D made a very insightful remark, “The way they’ve been marketing this has been intriguing. It’s like they’re trying to do the ‘show, don’t tell’ but the complete opposite.” This is indeed a valid point – they are making a lot of fuss but actual gameplay demonstrations have been quite limited. And @fredex91 predicted that the release date would be pushed to “late 26 or early 27 because of GTA6,” which is the worst situation we could imagine. The wait is already too long for us to bear.
There were also concerns based on the ground. @BrandonLeeDbson wanted to find out if the game has character customization, which is quite critical for RPGs. The original tweet did not say anything about it, so the question still remains. And @TheLostBandit4 whined, “I don’t see wishlist option on psn,” thus it seems that probably it is being made available slowly on some platforms. Same old stories in terms of the usual retail tales.
A couple of gamers have already been bewitched. @JamesBME2022 expressed it in a way: “My brain is telling no preorders… but my heart is telling yes…” We are with you, dude. It is a never-ending internal battle. And @Julio52K labeled it as “The closest we’re ever getting to a proper mass effect 4,” which is a pretty audacious claim, but if it manages to capture that magic, it could turn out to be a great success.
In conclusion, Exodus is more than a rumor or a mere wish. With the player’s freedom as the main focus, it can be one of the biggest sci-fi RPGs in the making along with the deep lore and some genuinely revolutionary mechanisms like the Recycler gun. The wishlist is open, the hype is growing, and we all just hanging on for that release date to be announced. I really hope that “later this year” means sooner rather than later because my backlog can only entertain me for so long. This is a potential mega hit.
