FromSoftware has thrown Patch 1.01.5 at Elden Ring Nightreign, and while it fixes that Everdark Sovereign Sentient Pest thing, the reception has been at best mixed. According to the patch notes, the update attempts to stabilize the game; but the players want more: Much More! New Content? Duo Mode? Crossplay? Anything??

The solution is simple: just patch the bug and do nothing else. It will work as a balm to some of those injured, while the greater side just turns its eyes sideways at having nothing to discuss of substance. One player even angrily chided the devs: “I love the game, but you’re lacking on adding simple features to keep people grinding. At least add a new skin?” Oof. And they aren’t far off—the placing of active players in Elden Ring is about 26K; for a title that exploded upon the scene, this appears to be one missed opportunity to carry on with the hype.”

And then comes the duo mode drama or, rather, the lack thereof. @Dani_run94 implores (“ADD DUOS FOR GOD’S SAKE!!!!”), while @CyberSpeek seems perplexed at the delay: “How long does it take to add duos when the scaling is already there?” Such a fair question considering how effortless it is for modders to shimmy up and tweak the game in literally a matter of minutes while the official developers just keep lagging behind.

What a drought for content. @itsHeyKyle said it best, “The game is starting to lose people… do something.” Whether it be with new maps, randomized dungeons, or a roadmap to give players assurance that big updates are indeed being worked on, the silence is deafening. Late 2025 for DLC sounds like it will take forever. Meanwhile, @PAG_fluttershy laments: “A single update a week to just fix bugs? Roadmap? Balance update? Communication? You’ve absolutely dropped the ball.”

Well, contrasted with the doomposting, others remain calm and collected. @ChiefmiefAUT is reminding everyone that Elden Ring isn’t a live service: “This is not a live service game; the game is finished except for the DLC later this year.” Erm, granted, but hey, when your closest competitors are handing out weekly updates and seasonal content, one can’t help but feel left in the dust.”

This is what really cools down the discourse: the technical hiccups. A crash after the new update is being reported by @rancorcall, while @DDC_Calgary points out a lingering bug that causes field bosses not to reward sometimes. Small yet tiring.

And there we are: a small step to patch 1.01.5. If FromSoftware really wants to keep that player base entertained, they need to think big time. Duo mode, crossplay, new content—anything to light that spark back in the players! Because right now, Nightreign feels way too dark… and not the Elden Ring way.

Until then, it’s grind, grind, grind for us, and hopefully, the next update puts something besides bug fixes on the table. Or, well, y’know, something else to play until the DLC drops. Ouch.
