Techland recently announced what they refer to as their greatest update to Dying Light and already the players are diving into a lot of new content. New Game+, Legend Levels, thousands of changes, new achievements filled to the brim, and a weekend bonus that features Double XP and an exclusive weapon waiting in your in-game stash are all part of Update 1.4. This revamping is so massive that it could be said to cover the entire zombie survival game scene giving the old and new gamers a direct path to relive the scary virus outbreak of Harran.
So, what’s your take on it? The New Game+ option probably is the most rewarding out of all the features. Players would be able to relive the historical narrative in the New Game+ mode but with all the tools, skills, and progress that they worked so hard for transformed. This means that the player can use military-grade weapons to start off and even kill zombies, which is just, well, cool. Legend Levels would be another new feature and it is an entire progress system which will be introduced as soon as you reach the maximum level thereby giving you a lot of options to level up your character. What’s the deal with all the fixes? They haven’t revealed the whole list, but it certainly seems that a lot of areas have been worked on like debugging, rebalancing, and making the game more user-friendly.
This particular weekend, Double XP has been activated. It’s the perfect opportunity to level up your Legend characters or finally bring that character you’ve neglected to max level. Besides, you can also fetch an exclusive weapon from your stash. To know the specifics you have to visit the Outpost in-game but free gear is always nice when you’re surrounded by volatiles.
The response from the community has been… mixed as usual. Some players are really excited. User Juan David just posted “At last” along with a celebratory gif, showing that he is very pleased with the arrival of New Game+. Another player Sabro tweeted in Spanish and basically wrote “finally game plus, I forgive you so much Dying Light,” which when translated conveys the long wait that some have had for this feature.
On the contrary, there exist opposite views too. KyloZen0 slammed Techland with the phrase, “Name a better relationship than the one between Techland and unfinished games.” Ouch! It looks like a shot at the stance held by a group of gamers that the game came out in a state which required lots of polishing and therefore, these updates are only a part of the post-release completion of the game.
There are also ongoing debates about the price of the game and its content. A user, Blaz3Gam3r77 stated that the game “lacks full price level content” and called the main storyline mediocre. This triggered a guessing game among the other players. Felixsulla138bc came into the support of the game claiming that it doesn’t really sell at the regular AAA full price and that the developers have priced it accordingly, realizing that it was a shorter experience. He even mentioned the first Dying Light fans and said, “As a dl1 veteran, I can say fans of the 1st will enjoy.”
The physical release saga is still being brought up. Various users like PaperAeroplane and J0RDYK are constantly asking when or if we would ever get a proper disc version. It looks like a number of players still like hard copies or simply want to display the game in their collection and that’s why they are asking about it.
Moreover, technical support requests have been coming in too. Gojan200037 is pleading for cross-play or keyboard and mouse compatibility on consoles which would on the whole change the game in terms of influence on the gameplay. Anotherkotya wants to know if the PS5 Pro power is going to be utilized, and he is hoping for more than just a resolution boost. And daryiljohnson30 mentions that there are still matchmaking issues, and that is a problem for Dying Light which has co-op as a major feature, and consequently, the game has not improved in that respect at all.
More than ever, some gamers are being very specific with their requests. SupremeILL_ wants to know if Bruiser Boots will at last be part of the New Game+ and he has attached an image that seems to show the absent shoes. JCGaliman has a similar request that the parkour should be allowed to earn some XP, arguing that the main movement mechanic of Dying Light is neglected in the progression system.
The discussion over comparing this game with the previous ones is really very interesting. When one user asked whether he should play Dying Light 2 first before coming to this game, the opinions were divided. Nightcrawler814 depicted it as “Dying Light 2 with a bit of Dying Light 1,” while RealJahan replied candidly that it is “better than” and also mentioned the new Xbox accessories.
