Techland has recently proclaimed a significant Double XP event for the Dying Light players but the reaction from the community has been… well, it can be said to be complicated. The Dying Light account also shared that up to October 27th, players are to collect double experience points in the Tower Raid mode and mentioned the event as “the best time to finishing Sola’s reward track”. Nevertheless, the announcement, instead of bringing about a universal celebration, fanned the flames of players’ requests, grievances that turned into serious drama about the game status.

To get straight to the point – the Tower Raid is being given this glorious Double XP that in theory will make it quicker for players to finish their reward tracks. However, if one goes through the replies, it is clear that a pretty good group of players is not at all happy with the Tower Raid. A player called Dominic Heinle was very outspoken in his opinions and he labeled Tower Raid as “the biggest mistake in dying light history.” He further went on to state “not even a single player plays it, even when it was new, people were avoiding it not a single fing soul.” Ouch! That really was an extreme criticism.

But on the other hand, the community appears to be divided into three different Dying Light experiences. Some players turned out to be that they have switched over to “Dying Light The Beast,” with the user Cedspazzin confidently stating “Nah we on Dying Light The Beast now.” Others are still playing the first Dying Light and Dying Light 2 thus forming a confusing divide in the player community that the Double XP event may not concern some at all.

The Halloween update requests also started arriving with different players asking for seasonal content. User SpookyPicsel was very clear with his inquiry, “Halloween event when?” and kaehdric was requesting “Halloween update for DL2 and please keep updating this game and Tower Raid!!” The situation undoubtedly makes sense since it is already late October and the gamers are clearly in need of some seasonal zombie-slaying action.

But there is yet another conflict that seems to be arising in connection with community challenges. User BEAST- criticized the game developers for the weekly community goals, saying “Tone down the weekly community challenge 30 and 60 million is a bit too much because you all have a history of setting a community goal a little too high.” This comment led to the whole discussion about the current dismemberment challenge (reportedly with the requirement of 60 million dismemberments) and whether it is even mathematically possible, with players doing the calculations and finding out that they would need approximately 10 million dismemberments per day to achieve the target.

The debate became even more captivating when cathyannis contended that during past occasions when the community was unlikely to achieve the goal, the developers “manipulated it by boosting the numbers.” BEAST- verified that he remembers such situations, calling it a “pointless cycle” wherein they receive all the rewards anyway. This raises questions about how these community challenges are managed behind the scenes.

Some players made requests for specific features. BUILDASPLIFF made the developers a request to “Bring back stamina usage for climbing at least in higher difficulties please,” which indicates that gameplay mechanics are still a burning issue. On the contrary, ALeaderNightR proposed a “frank bundle or dead by daylight x dying light 2” crossover, which, at least to me, sounds quite neat.

The issue of character customization has not gone unnoticed either and Hyrulehero inquired about “bruiser boots” missing from quest rewards, implying either a developer oversight or a bug that is preventing players from receiving certain gear.

It is quite amazing how a single Double XP announcement ignited such a huge debate surrounding the entire Dying Light ecosystem. Players are talking about everything from which version they are playing to specific gameplay mechanics that they want changed to how community events should be organized. It is as if the Double XP was just the spark that ignited the powder keg of player feedback.

And when talking about player movement, justasamurai47 brought up a very good point when he expressed his hope “Dl2 gets a lot of features in the beast and some gameplay focused mod support on consoles,” indicating that proper mod support could “100% bring players back to DL2.” This highlights how critical it is for the community to ensure that there is ongoing support and feature equivalency among the different Dying Light versions.

Thus, while the Double XP event is bad news for those still grinding through the Tower Raid, the broader discussion reveals a community that is passionate yet frustrated about various game aspects. The players demand community challenge balancing, consistent updates across all Dying Light titles, and seasonal content along with quality-of-life enhancements. The migration of players to “The Beast” version suggests that the newer content is perhaps more in sync with the player base than the older modes like Tower Raid that have lost their appeal.

Ultimately, the Double XP weekend will take place regardless of whether players enjoy Tower Raid or not. Nevertheless, the real news here is how one simple announcement laid bare the hidden desires of the Dying Light community – and it was not just double experience points. They are after engaging content, fair challenges, cross-game features, and continued support that renders every Dying Light version worth playing. The game developers will have a hard time pleasing this passionate (and very vocal) community during all their zombie-slaying adventures.
