Techland basically said, “Here’s THE scoop.” And now we know: The Beast is dropping in three days, dressed with the date: 18th of September and another trip to Castor Woods for some old-school hanging-on-the-wall kind of revenge. The tweet literally says: “your quest for revenge begins,” and it’s just so damn cool.
Okay, back to The Beast. So, it is a standalone expansion for Dying Light 2, not a proper game. And all this confusion that appeared in the replies kind of resulted from that. Michal was asking about physical copies, and then this Dabi person popped in saying it’s an expansion, not a full-blown game. That is probably why we don’t have a physical copy for launch-going DLC rarely gets that treatment.
In any case, Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition owners get a treat: basically, it’s FREE for them to own The Beast, confirmed by Dabi once again. Nice bonus for early adopters who went for the deluxe version.
So, interestingly, this never really happens right off. The devs actually answered a few questions, saying a main story can get around the 20-hour mark, with extra 30 for additional content. Zombie slaughtering for days! Total of 50 hours: That’s like a full game right there!
Then came pre-load questions. TranzitIsPog asked if it would be possible to pre-load tomorrow so we can start playing right from the 18th. And then REBELNOMAD asked “when can we pre download?” yet, still no word from Techland. It’s probably going to happen really soon anyway, with launch being just around the corner.
A German player asked about “the German cut;” I don’t really know what that means, but it probably refers to some regional differences in content. Usually, games have a different version in Germany because of their strict violence laws.
The hype was definitely real. “I really missed Kyle Crane, and I’m going to help him get his revenge and unleash his inner beast,” said Thiago. Stephanie Chavez even posted a delightful gif. Hearing the poor soul named Sami Sam Sam speak: He cannot currently afford to buy the game and is literally begging if anyone has any chores for him to do in exchange for buying the game. That’s dedication.
Meanwhile, there have been some performance questions, with hamidal pledging to support the game, along with PC performance scholarships-a totally valid question, considering again-having somewhat rocky launch of Dying Light 2. Hopefully, Techland have learned from that one.
Achievement hunters want to know how many achievements the game has. ObsessiveCompulsiveGamer asked about bounties being updated for The Beast. And someone is inquiring about review embargo dates-which probably means a release of reviews is imminent.
Confusion regarding Deluxe Edition upgrades is also underway. The official account just came out and said you can upgrade to Deluxe after launch, which sounds like good production for those that want to try before they commit to the Deluxe.
Sure enough, we have our standard trolls like Johnathen Regan jr joking about delaying to 2026. Funny but probably not happening since we’re literally three days out.
So yeah, The Beast looks like it’s bringing back Kyle Crane (which everyone seems to be excited about) and is going to lead us through some horror woods for revenge. Fifty hours of content is big for an upgrade. Pre-orders are live now and the countdown is up. September 18th wouldn’t come!
Hopefully solid performance and lives up to all that hype. Techland has been heavily responsive to community questions, which is a good sign. Now if they’d just tell us about pre-load…
