Social media saw Techland asking a very simple question, and the Dying Light 2 players’ community reacted with a more than just a little bit of excitement. The developer wanted to know how the players felt about the Legend Levels brought with ‘The Beast’ update and the gamers’ opinions varied a lot—ranging from pumped-up fans to seriously frustrated players, and so on.
For those who missed it, one does need to grind to get the Legend Levels—the latter represents the latest end-game character development system in Dying Light 2: Stay Human. After one gets to the max level, one will start receiving points that can be spent on unlocking an entirely new skill tree. the skills are melee damage, health, and stamina with even some crazy stuff like attack speed, Karl’s purpose is to kill zombies and conquer the city and he is equipped with all god-like powers, nothing less.
Thus, at the very least the reactions may be summed as mixed. In this context, a few gamers have already give in to the whole power trip. One gamer named Natasha@1892 even said, ‘That Kyle Crane is strong enough to finally roam around at night and hunt volatiles instead of hiding from them. 🤩’ So that is what they are looking for anyway, isn’t it? Flipping the tables on the most terrifying creatures in the game. Another gamer LightningAiman just declared straight away, ‘100M weapon damage is crazy,’ which is true in fact, so this is one of the points where gamers can come together.
Moreover, the creative artists have already come up with new ideas to explore. Wolf Rising proposed if there could be Legend abilities for vehicles—such as health, speed, nitro, gas consumption, even swimming speed. This is exactly the rationale Techland has for next step. ObsessiveCompulsiveGamer also had his say and he claimed that the system makes leveling up ‘special and unique;’ plus, that it adds a whole new layer to the meaning of the multiplayer game. He even presented a very detailed suggestion about increasing the skill points to 600 and obliging players to specialize instead of buying every single skill. This dude has been giving this a lot of thought.
On the other hand, though, it is a big but…not everybody is enjoying the update. The update has made many mods obsolete, which is a major problem for PC self-proclaimed gamers. Marcus from the Netherlands lamented, saying that ‘the update broke all my mods 🥲 and the mod makers are not bothered to update them 🥲🥲.’ Another player, Harry, was even more straightforward: ‘Aaaand the no-grab mod stopped working. Not going to play without it.’ Oof. That’s a no-go situation for some.
And there are bugs. Fatal crashes, now and then. ‘Game keeps freezing,’ said susmaster. Joseph Spivey said he experienced crashing during bike riding. That’s definitely a minus for a game where parkour and vehicles are so important. Some players have even called it ‘the polishing scam,’ which is… rough, but it still indicates how much frustration there is when things go wrong.
However, the question of balance and grinding remains the most contested issue. Some players have reached Legend Level 300 and they think it’s a broken system? Player L1ch🇧🇷 described a strange situation: ‘When you get to level 300, it is impossible to kill enemies.’ Like, your character is so powerful that the game’s killing mechanics go into a bug? This seems like a weird issue to have. ObsessiveCompulsiveGamer has raised this point too and he said, this ‘overpowered crap is breaking the end-game.’
While this is happening the other players are at the other end of the sticking point, and are wondering why the leveling is so slow. ‘I’m still on level 1 why is leveling up so slow ??’ asked Matt G. Justin Simoneau reiterated the concern, asking whether more end-game content was coming because getting to level 300 ‘through nothing but ng+ playthroughs sounds like a nightmare.’ The conversation got quite involved in the replies, as players like Morb Kenni and others discussed how the New Game+ cycles (NG+2, NG+3, etc.) actually re-balance the difficulty, making volatiles give more XP but also making you less of a one-hit-kill machine. Blake even provided figures, stating a volatile in Brutal NG+3 gives 22k XP. So the road to 300 is there, but it’s a marathon not a sprint.
So what’s the city’s verdict? It’s complicated. The Legend Levels update for Dying Light 2 has presented hardcore players with a staggering new aim and a way to actually feel powerful. The dream of sport hunting volatiles is a big lure, but it’s also released along with still unaddressed technical issues.
