Nintendo gave basketball buffs and gamers-doers-for-fresh an early hype. From August 9 to 10, a demo will be available upon Nintendo Switch Online membership. Meanwhile, the game is strictly on Switch; hence a Pittsburgh shuffle will get ’em sympathy from me.
There have been some mixed opinions on this announcement. Some players were more than thrilled to try it. One player named @Iblistech writes, “Sweet! I’ll definitely give this a try for sure.” Then @rahnyc4 says the exact opposite: “this is one of these games i dont think anyone ask for or even care to try.” Ouch. Life becomes rough for a fresh IP when trying to blow up in such a crowded market.
However, comments have been pretty all over the place. You have @PawprintTicket stating, “kinda excited,” while @REDY0TA has become the proverbial crow declaring this a flop before it launched. Then @Ajarbiter117 did a wheelchair joke: “Are you gonna brick people consoles if they make the wrong move while pushing the wheelchair?” Bruh, too soon?
Looking at the price, some smiles were drawn. @MissTrifolium makes an appearance here with his statement, “I appreciate the price tag for this game! $20 seems reasonable,” a low price compared to the many on Switch. Then again, @DDubgaming compares it to “low effort, bottom of the barely garbage” in contrast to Nintendo’s other games. Damn, tell us how you really feel.
One user said, “This is lowkey ARMS tea,” as reported by @natemob1. One user, @1plsg, seems rather excited about mouse controls, which is…a mood?
Some felt insulted about the exclusivity. @melvin2898 said, “It’s unfortunate that I won’t get to play it,” while @TikLikesChaiTea boldly predicts, “This thing’s gonna be in Smash 6 watch!” which…wow, that would be crazy, but let’s hold up.
Some newsworthy bit is that it looks like someone has gotten hands on with the demo! @JuiceMan_V stated, “I tested the demo at Japan Expo and really liked it.” So there is at least one positive word; maybe this wheelchair basketball game is worth more than the public gives it credit.
At the end of the day, it’s just another Nintendo experiment. Some goofy new IPs explode (Splatoon), some don’t. The real test for the Global Jam is hosting the demo to see if Drag x Drive really has that special Nintendo shine or if it’ll be tossed into the bargain bin beside 1-2-Switch. Whichever way it goes, this one is free to try for all Switch Online members, so may as well give it a try, am I right? The court opens on August 9.
