Nintendo has released a brand new shock experiment, Drag x Drive, a game that got some unorthodox hype and mass confusion. Players are trained to do tricks and score points using very unique mouse controls, and this entered the markets. And this is where the enlightened ones start giving less praise about it: Twitter had entered into the war zone of hot-and-cold takes, hilarious memes, and contrary basketball analogies.
The announcement tweet from NintendoAmerica almost immediately started filling up with reactions. Some like @RafaMarquinaYT defended the game as a kind of misunderstood gem that people judged too quickly. On the flip side, others, including @agusinfinite1, said it was the worst Nintendo game in 20 years, and “Never do it again.” Ouch!
Then comes the mouse controller thing. @IAmSpleen79 bought the Switch 2 for mouse support; only Cyberpunk 2077 supports it. So now Drag x Drive arrives with its own precedent for mouse gameplay, with reactions said to be mixed. Some cherish the new mechanics while others, such as @ryudabear, consider it “probably the worst Nintendo exclusive in years.”
Now that’s when it started getting stranger with the comparison to ARMS. Yeah, the boxing one. @BlueFroggolotl joked, “I wanted ARMS 2, not 0 Legs,” with @vactorio1 commenting back, “This is ARMS 2. They don’t use their legs, do they?” That could become a legendary meme.
In terms of content, players such as @NerdyBoutKirby were just looking for more info, asking whether the game had any more to offer beyond basketball and minigames. @RafaMarquinaYT then said there is no story mode or built-in tournaments, but there are actually quite a few minigames—just maybe not quite enough for $20 to some.
This is an ace testing question for any Nintendo fanboys. @TortoRacoon said bluntly, “If you suspect someone is a fanboy, just ask them what they think about this Nintendo game!!!” Brutal but kind of true? Almost all answers fell mostly into two camps, die-hard defenders, and also critics who felt burned by the lack of depth.
What then is the judgement? Certainly, Drag x Drive is a release that divides fairly much opinion. It has that Nintendo charm in its quirky controls and arcade-style gameplay, so whether it really deserves a lot of someone’s time and money depends almost entirely on whether they would like to get behind such experimental mechanics. Some have been labeling the game as an unknown gem, while some are treating it as a gore story.
One thing that goes without saying: Nintendo is definitely not playing it safe with this one. So, if you love it or hate it, Drag x Drive is definitely a hot conversation topic, and spawning lots of memes and maybe a few broken controllers. If it is good, well… you decide.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we need to vacate to try to master the mouse controls or rage-quit; half of Twitter appears to be doing the latter anyway. Game on, guys. Or… mouse on? Whatever.
