Discord has once again rolled out another big-slate set of fixes and improvements, but the members were still very much not satisfied because some of the core issues are still left unsolved; innocent accounts keep being hit. The official Discord Support account tweeted a link to the whole set of patch notes, but the replies soon turned into this open forum of complaints and these specific remedies.
Before any one thing, the update: The latest updates cover backend changes, a few user interface fixes, and what one might call general optimizations. Nothing of any extraordinary note, but hey: stability is good to have. You can actually find the complete list over in their support page; but I think most of us are guilty of just scrolling past it and diving headfirst into the comments section to voice our complaints.
And complain they did, with Pat Schnepp (@patrickpanduh) blasting Discord for going ignored on their support tickets for months on end. It got so bad that the person airing the grievances had to go to the Better Business Bureau and even threaten arbitration: “Apparently, you didn’t improve shit.” @discord_support and the main account @discord were tagged. Ouch.
Then there are @Katsongg, the VTuber, who called Discord’s AI moderation out for being a little over the top. “When will you fix your poorly made AI that bans people for no reason?” they asked, pointing out that the system flags even innocent images and messages for violations. This is not the first time the Discord automated systems have been considered a little overboard, and judging by the replies, they’re still an enormous set of problems.
Meanwhile, @BaiacuSilvestre is just asking for smooth chat scrolling on Android. Simple enough, right? But apparently, no one has gotten back to them. Leading to the wild energy of @max123abcyyyy, who responded with a meme to another user summing up the whole thing: confused and frustrated.
The strangest thing? Most of the complaints are not even new. Discord AI moderation has been a pain for months, yet here we are with some players still getting falsely banned. The support team’s response? Silence at least in that chain of tweets.
What are we to take away? Well, the recent Discord update may have addressed the bugs but bigger issues like their overly aggressive AI and sluggish customer support remain very much alive. Seems like the players are tired of waiting, and judging by those replies, patience is running thin themselves.
Will Discord try and get these problems addressed in the next update? Time will tell. In the meantime, meme-sharing sessions and chats with your friends might want to be double-checked before you get accidentally banned—it’s going to be one long walk getting Discord to undo things!
And there, ladies and gents, goes the status of Discord early into 2024–better but broken in the ways that really matter to the user. Here’s to hoping the next big update will finally listen to feedback rather than act like it doesn’t exist.
