Blizzard has announced the launch of Diablo: Season of Infernal Chaos on September 23, with an emphasis on the Infernal Hordes mode but now with some twists and other new additions. The players are already divided into determining whether this is an update or just old content with a coat of paint.
The official Diablo account’s tweet gives the impression that “intensity is being dialed up,” implying updated balances and new offerings. Sounds good, right? With adjustments in balance, maybe they took feedback seriously by making the game harder or rewarding. But upon scrolling through the replies, players are basically burning the town down over these decisions.
Some of these voices say that from the start, the devs have been horrible as they immediately labelled it as “recycled ass mode.” If that ever were to have been true, then you have to wonder why are they bringing back Infernal Hordes now when it’s been present every season since old times, someone else said in response. So is this actually new or just the same old with minor tinkering?
Given all the complaints, one user threw forth a theory that this would have taken so long to bring back exactly so Battle Pass XP gains could be nerfed, and the entire Season feels anti-consumer with constant cash grabs. And there’s a very recurrent complaint everyone nowadays throws at live service games. Everyone is sick and tired of being nickel and dimed for something that should be part of the base game.
Others are ecstatic. Some say they are very excited. One user is counting down the days till they hunt for Chaos Armor and just really have some fun. So a part of the player base still does have fun with whatever Blizzard is cooking, even if it is nothing new.
This also relates to the lack of content. One player merely asked for more classes, more skills, more build diversity, more endgame content, more world events, and better gameplay. It was basically telling them, “stop lacking, please; this is Diablo.” Which is a fair demand considering Diablo 4 is a big franchise that carries a lot of historical weight, and players expect a certain level of quality and innovation.
In contrast, one of the comments stated that since season 2, every season has been nothing short of underwhelming – as if the team has run out of ideas and is just recycling everything. They wonder if this season will bring any hope of truly being fun and stay on people’s radar longer than just a week. Again, such concerns are valid because if you are dropping a new season, you want it to engage people for more than just a few days.
There’s also an odd one, yet up on the docket, where someone is wondering what color the Helltide is this season. Kind of funny, but, in a way, also shows players are enjoying any snippet of detail that they can hold onto. Another player wished for a stat squish since damage numbers are just plain insane. Yeah, the power creep is real in these games too.
Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, Season. Season of Infernal Chaos, dropping September 23. Promises them updated balances and new offerings, but seeing the reactions, you’d think the majority of the player base is skeptical. They’ve seen this before and weren’t impressed.
It’s interesting because Diablo has such a loyal fan base; however, lately, it feels as though Blizzard is having difficulties pleasing that fan base. It’s only getting trickier between the battle pass complaints and recycled content accusations. Maybe the update will shock everyone into rethinking their current mindset-or maybe… it’ll disappoint once again.
In the end, all they really want is some more meaningful content. They want new tools, new ways to challenge themselves, and not just the same-stale stuff repackaged. Time will tell with the upcoming beginning of the Season if Blizzard will pull this off or just go with the flow of mediocrity. The Diablo community will keep the line and get into the fray no matter what. They’re probably even going to tweet their complaints about it. So lock in September 23 on your calendars, as some chaos is surely brewing, infernal or otherwise.
