Since the tweet from the official Destiny tracker Twitter account has gone out to ask people to rate their excitement about Destiny: Rising on a scale from 1 to 5, the reply tales were just all over the place, crazy, to say the least. Some are going nuts; others are just putting it down; the rest are sitting there wondering what it’s supposed to be. Let’s get into the breakdown.
First things first: for those who don’t know, Destiny: Rising is a new mobile game set in the Destiny universe. So this is precisely where the most important disclaimer comes in: it is not a Bungie game. It is an independent entity using the Destiny IP. And it is going to be released in just four days, which means the talk has finally started after a couple of weeks. The actual tweet was quite straightforward: How excited are you for the project? But the answers tell an entirely different situation.
We got some big names chiming in, with TheDanger2468 going full hype, saying, and I quote, “5… and I’m speaking from playing Alpha and Beta. This will genuinely take all my time until Destiny 2 gets there crap together again. So I can’t wait!” They are some high praise. There were even pleasant happy-hype emoji symbols that only aid the hype. They sound like they’ve actually played the game and were really impressed, which is a great sign. Another voice at the very opposite end of the spectrum is jkuhlmedia saying, “0 fuck mobile.” No sugar coating; I don’t care for mobile. And there are plenty from that camp.
One of the raging debates in the replies revolves around mobile versus PC/console. A lot of people are inquiring whether it can be played on PC through an emulator like rockingalan. People are replying such as Evilcon27, who says, “It will probably get a pc version at some point. Quite a few mobile games found their way onto Steam as it is.” So there is hope from the PC crowd but nothing confirmed just yet. Then on the other hand, people like DangerousDac say, “1. I don’t want to play on my phone.” Fair enough. Not everyone should be a mobile gamer.
Last but not least, gacha-game type. Mauricio said, “Any Destiny player excited for this have no idea of what a ‘Gacha game’ is and don’t realize how happy he is with Destiny 2 in comparison with what this game is gonna be.” Deathly unsympathetic, but that’s the spirit. Gacha games can be… troublesome, with their loot-box mechanisms and all. So there is that bit of suspicion from some gamers, which might well be justified.
Those are the ones who are going to dominate the story and certainly have their support. Fafnir said, “5 can’t wait + I need my goth mommy,” which is… specific, but hey, whatever floats your boat. And TranqD2 popped in with “Solid 4 I loved the gameplay and characters just going that the end game is just as good.” So gameplay could possibly be neat, and that’s good news to hear.
Of course, you’ve got the Destiny 2 fans, and they’re just disappointed in the present main game. TTV_King_Rollie said “Destiny the game is dead 🥺” and that’s a sentiment I’ve heard a whole lot lately. So anyway, maybe a welcome distraction for them is Destiny: Rising. But then there are those that just outright scoff at things like UEGShadowAngel: “0 for a mobile gacha game. But I’m sure some brain dead people are excited over it”. That one hurt.
In the whole platform argument. darkslade51 “It would be exciting if everyone could get access to Destiny Rising. But since it’s on mobile limiting its access to only one platform without emulating and going through a bunch of hoops. I’m not as excited. But I am hoping it comes to more platforms.” That’s definitely a solid point-the limiting it to mobile only does cut out a big chunk of the potential audience.
Then you have those who couldn’t give two hoots. Supasom1 said, “1 don’t care”, and dudelove1887 commented, “It’s a mobile game, 0”. Anyways, not everybody is on the wagon.
Sing with me now; “And despite all the mixed reactions, one things is clear: Destiny: Rising is stirring much buzz around.” Whether good or bad, people are talking about it. And with a release date just a couple of days away, we’ll actually see if it ever deserves all the hype… or all the trashing.
It’s pretty cool from where I stand, having the Destiny universe move into the mobile world. It might not be for everyone, but it could be a hell of a lot of fun for those who enjoy these games. Maybe it’ll get ported at a later date. But for now, if you are excited, get ready to download it in just 4 days; otherwise, there’s always Destiny II… or whatever else you are playing.
So yeah, excitement levels range from 0 to 5. All over the place. It’s a grand mix; that’s what makes this interesting. Can’t wait to see how it plays out. Or maybe I can; I don’t know. Wait, what was I saying? Oh right, Destiny: Rising. Four days. Mark your calendar or just don’t. Your choice.
