Bungie gave a timely reminder just before the last hours of the Rite of the Nine, and player reaction has been… at best divided. The Rite requires Guardians to complete trials and spend their Nonary Manifolds before a weekly reset, and in doing so, it has become a source of feedback itself: thankful, fretful, and simply bewildering.
So, first of all, what is the Rite of the Nine? For the uninitiated, it is a limited-time event in which players grind the activities for special rewards such as adept weapons and other loot. However, the catch is that Bungie put a daily limit on how many Nonary Engrams you could get, and from there is where the complaints really start.
@StayChaot1c put it like this: “I would grind more of the engrams, but with putting a limit on how many you can get is kinda dumb imo.” They definitely aren’t the only one. @wadevstheworld chimed in with: “We’re trying to [spend our Nonary Manifolds], but you’ll only let us buy one Nonary Engram a day now!!” Ouch.
The Ultimatum Challenge was a big point of pain. @MarketAmazonX gave it as “impossible,” whereas @organizedchaov lamented being “gatekept by all the bosses.” Some players have even been begging Bungie to activate Daybreak modifiers to ease the pain (“Turn on Daybreak in Ultimatum it’ll be funny,” joked @bennijin).
Not everybody is drowning. In fact, @HotBisGaming went so far as claiming they’ve “got all my god rolls,” while @ThefunOfArt pleaded, “Unlimited engrams for the last day please?” (Bungie ought to take this piece of advice.)
Then, the bigger-picture perspective comes into play. @L_Rocks_Well slammed the event as a “tone-deaf content drop” compared to the well-received Into the Light update. “You are supposed to learn from well received releases and BUILD upon them,” they commented. The whole event was termed by @Phibrain659_ as “mediocre,” and they added that “felt like i was just doing what i wouldve been doing anyway.”
Then comes the never-ending debate on vault space. @ZombaitX burst out with: “What is even the point of collecting any of these weapons? As long as the @Destiny2Team refuses to implement sensible weapon and armor systems… players will struggle with finding vault space.”
A few are just exhausted. Declared the “worst event ever” by @HLRaiveres and @jeanvalchibre, with @MuntageJr going nuclear: “This is a dead game.” Ouch.
Let’s not count out the technical issues! @itsdaly13 was struck with the “10-hour update while trying to grind,” and @WMCGHOST reported that an adept chest bug rewarded them with “nothing.”
Where does it fall at the end? Rite of the Nine with promise; the grind caps, infuriating assaults, and a lack of innovation are what left a fair portion of players unhappy. The event closes very soon, so Guardians will have one last shot at cashing in their Manifolds-if they didn’t hit the cap already for this day.
Will this feedback ever be worked into future events? Time will tell. Meanwhile, the D2 community is louder than ever.
At least we indulged in a few jabs at Bungie. “Players farming loot since 2017. Time to say ‘No’ to addiction guys,” joked @iMxeem. Too real.
If anyone has Manifolds left to spend, they’re better off using them before reset. Otherwise… hey, there’ll probably be a next season. Maybe.
