Bungie has been promoting the next major update for Destiny 2 with a teaser, and though it’s not overly good, the community has stirred up. The official Destiny account introduced the new Modified B-7 Pistol Hand Cannon, calling it a weapon to ‘prove your dominance over foes.’ This is all part of the upcoming ‘Renegades’ update scheduled for release on December 2, 2025. Nevertheless, the new weapon is undoubtedly very attractive, but the gamers’ reactions could not be more contrasting as some are really looking forward to the gun while others are, let’s say, very mad about a lot of other things.
What is it that has the entire player base talking? Destiny 2 recently released an exciting trailer showing the B-7 pistol which has become a hand cannon for many guardians and was even the preferred choice for some. A certain gamer named MKniferton was beyond delighted and he could not wait to share his happiness, ‘As a lover of handcannons. Like a legit collector….this satisfies me and I can’t wait.’ shadebinder02 was another one who shared the excitement, ‘Can’t wait to see what rolls it has. Love me a good stasis handcanon.’ So, there is a definite section of gamers who are 100% on board with this piece of gear. In a similar vein, LadyCalgar just posted ‘Oh this is about to be some PEAK🤌🏼😍😈’ which is a pretty accurate description of the hype side.
But, do not get too far down before the mood instantly changes. For many players, the new gun is nothing but a small patch on a huge, open wound. All the comments are nothing but lamenting over everything except the new hand cannon; it is quite astonishing. One user, who goes by the name of Kevin Plemel, took it upon himself to go all out, demanding to see proof of Bungie’s learning from the past, shouting about a ‘power lvl multiplier screwing ALL returning players’ and that it guarantees ‘MINIMUM daily chest drops!’ To top it off, he said they ‘actually just pissed off the last 3 with this stupidity!’ So, not good at all.
And he’s not the single one either. The belief that the game is in a bad state seems to be pervasive across the whole player base. ThatSephence issued a very dire warning and told Bungie ‘to change Call To Arms’ and that ‘if bafflingly stupid decisions like this carry on into Renegades, there won’t be a next expansion.’ Ouch! Others are just blunt, for example, Nippalz who just said, ‘Game is Hella trash.’ Such a striking contrast to the breakthrough in weaponry.
Next, there are long-term complaints and grievances that are very specific. The players are discussing issues that have been bothering them for what seems to be a long time. 4thHorsemanCaty lamented, ‘Why the hell can’t i still not play every raid that has come out in d2?’ Inaros98, another user who was in the same thread, replied practically saying that Bungie ‘deleted most if not all of them along with every other bit of content that is not the most recent.’ Content vaulting is still a huge issue for the game. UppercutLion’s solution was simple: ‘Just give us Destiny 3’.
Some people’s complaints are more like a scattershot approach when it comes to problems. For example, estworik appears to be mad that ‘The call of arms rewards is locked behind more BS point systems!’ XenoNihilism asked if there would be a new location, strike, subclass, or PVP map being summed up by saying, ‘No? Then don’t care.’ ashyking53 is begging for a buff to ‘no backup plans’ and ‘removal of the void super restriction’. There even is an entire arguing about a voice actor from a summer DLC not being the correct one, with MesQueLaCabra expressing they will not play until the right voice actor is used. It is quite a lot to take in.
So, where are we at now? Bungie is trying to sell the idea of a bright new future with the introduction of a lovely gun, meanwhile, a big part of the community is still grappling with the issues of the past and the present. In other words, it is a situation where the developer is looking ahead, while the players are yelling about what is going on right now. The new Modified B-7 Pistol Hand Cannon might be a great addition when Renegades releases but still, Bungie has a lot of community trust rebuilding to do before the December arrival. The players speak their mind and this is what they say: the new shiny toy won’t do if the core game is unplayable or very irritating to the players. Thus, it will certainly be interesting to see how the PlayStation and Xbox communities respond to these developments.
