Bungie has just really shaken up the Destiny 2 players: Exotic Hand Cannon Graviton Spike-the far-out new weapon lets one manipulate time, and it can be switched between Arc and Stasis firing modes. Definitely a game-changer. Scheduling release on July 15, 2025, under The Edge of Fate.
Exactly what does this gun do? Precision. Overcharge is gained landing crits; then you choose between fast Arc mode or a slow Stasis shot. The contrast between light and dark in one weapon is causing a stir in the community, some have said it is a must-have for Prismatic builds.
Others were less inclined to be happy with the news. Replies to the tweets on its announcements were sometimes all had something dismissing to say. One user stated, “This hand cannon is literally the only reason I’m buying the dlc 😹,” while another said, “mid af.” Ouch. Then, the typical Destiny-community skepticism: “Better be good,” one Guardian said, “It only took you guys 5 years to make a hand cannon.”
And that’s not just hype for the gun. People are in the middle of forming some crazy theory builds about pairing it with Mask of Bakris into utter destruction; and then you have a few folks concerned about actually switching firing modes—that old “hold down a button” being so “annoying” compared to Borderland’s toggle system. And, of course, there is the classic “hype and salt” combo concerning whether this is grind-gated or Day-1,” (spoiler; threat of riots if it’s not).
Now, the bigger conversation concerning The Edge of Fate itself—well, that is just a mess. Some players are convinced the expansion seems rather thin with no new strikes, Gambit maps, or seasonal activity at launch; others are just here for the loot, with a renewed interest in No Land Beyond sniper (which may even not be part of the DL–). Classic Destiny talk–love it.
One thing is certain: Graviton Spike is going to polarize the meta. Worth the price of admission, that’s debatable; hand cannon fans can’t wait for the 15th of July.
