The annual Halloween celebration of Destiny 2, Fest of the Lost, was very creepy but soon it would be over for Bungie when the next weekly reset happened. In particular, the developer of the game advised the players to deliver the leftover sweet stuff to Eva and claim the already unclaimed rank rewards before the expiration of the event. Although the event is no longer active, the chatter among Guardians is getting louder, and there is one thing that the community has been asking for – the return of Superblack.
Bungie’s official Twitter account was the very first to announce the closure of the event. Almost the whole community was informed to claim their rewards so that they wouldn’t lose them. The players had very different opinions about the Halloween event; many feelings were expressed when it was over. The section of the replies was full of reactions, complaints, and one very particular demand that kept popping up throughout the conversation.
Now, what exactly is the Festival of the Lost? Simply put, it is the Halloween event in the world of Destiny where the players are given candy, allowed to wear masks, and do other special activities. The event also brought along its share of new items, though the community had different opinions about it. Some players enjoyed it, while others absolutely detested it.
The most common word from the gamers was the desperate cry for the return of Superblack, a classic shader from the first Destiny that has almost become a mythical item. One of the gamers, Primary Echo, even tagged each official account that he could think of – @A_dmg04, @Bungie, @Sony, @PlayStation, @Steam, @Xbox, @Destiny2Team – just to ask “please bring back Superblack” with the praying hands emoji. His request was not a single one as a lot of comments echoing the same sentiment were posted. It appears that for the veterans these who have been waiting for their favorite cosmetics to be back in stock for years is a very sensitive issue.
However, more than just a shader, the event drew criticism in different areas. One gaming fan expressed an explicit view through enunciating “Bring back haunted sectors. Altars is so boring,” which was quite harsh indeed, and probably hurt because the reader can sense the bitterness in that criticism. Others voiced their discontent with the weapon drops, including the “holofoil” versions that reportedly suffered from some very irregular drop rates.
The whole holofoil issue caused a bit of a stir in the comment section. One user, Ciefo23, grumbled “I didn’t get a single gunburn holofoil đź’© nice Bungie.” On the other hand, another user, DylanAiPs, countered with “Bullshit, I play like 2 hours a week and already have holofoils of all the guns,” which triggered a long debate about skill versus luck in getting the drops. Jared Sweetwater added to the argument that they had collected the bow and shotgun holofoils but couldn’t get the SMG with the desired perks, which was “driving me crazy.”
Then there were the technical problems that came to the forefront. Patrick lamented “My Title Guilding was not counted” and steel rhinoceros asked “Where tf is lord saladin? Couldn’t progress anything…” while using a facepalm emoji. Brendan Leeigh didn’t hold back at all and expressed his feelings through the words “You fucking ruined it! It was unplayable!” So, the situation was not all roses in the case of the players.
On the opposite side, however, not everything was bad! Some players even got a kick out of it. Gunchaser assigned the event a fair 7/10 rating and commented, “Not gonna lie, I rly enjoyed this event, I didn’t get a lot of holofoils weapon drops but I got some.” to which Sam added “I really liked both FotL activities this year!” At least a few jolly Guardians were there to gather their loot.
The discussion around weapons got rather detailed. CalicoFlo mentioned “We need better event weapons. No more bows and multi-shot slugs” and Andrew asked the Destiny2Team to “Please throw a Pulse Rifle in these events moving forward” with the praying hands emoji. There was even some back-and-forth regarding the SMG being good for PvP, with DylanAiPs saying it is “alright for pvp but only if you don’t have any other options” and Muu__Too countering “Alright for PvP’ so nothing.” That was quite a retort.
