Typical Trials of Osiris tweets have come out from Bungie this weekend. “The Lighthouse burns bright. How are your Trials of Osiris cards this weekend, Guardian?” And the replies… ooooooh, Lord-Not Good.
There is an… uh… somewhat negative sentiment. Instead, the reply zone is an utter mess, with players fighting each other for the poor present-day existence of Destiny 2‘s premier competitive mode. We are not just having a few complaints; that is a third-party meltdown of the whole community right there.
That’s when you know for sure: if hardcore and casual players alike agree on one thing, the meta has got to be broken. One player, Skylar (@Valiant_Nomad), who returned to D2 to check out Trials, said: “I can, in fact, confirm that it is as bad as people say it is. Don’t play it if you care for your sanity.” He then dropped a truth bomb: “When sweats AND casuals are hating it, there’s a fundamental problem with the playlist.”
Main complaints? Oh boy, shall we begin: The meta is, apparently, throwing knife and shotgun+hand cannon combos. Players commenting on the scenario were stating how on the Lord’s day, players would somehow eat throwing knives. More than one player was speaking about Arthrys’s Embrace Exotic whereby Hunters can spam throwing knives capable of two-tap strikes on enemies. With so much resentment, even solid 1.8 KDs are crying about getting beyond three wins.
And the matchmaking… and the teammates. Another solo (@RobertF1CNC) said that his own teammate was calling him bad. Another one (@Tonydatank) accused Bungie of adding NPCs as teammates “because there is no way real people are as bad as my teammates.” That is just… that is just brutal.
You don’t even want to know how the map selection decides for you. One player (@Metasthetic) said they were doing “very well” but added, “but i hate this map 🤣😅,” and that almost sums up the entire experience: Even if you’re winning, you’re not really having fun.
Matchmaking? Well, that seeds great contrast for discussion. The problem continues since, @JudgeArtyom called out, “teammates running PvE loadouts and enemies with a way higher K/D,” while @DARKxKNIGHTxx pointed out the fundamental flaw: “you can never get a good streak going unless you are a true sweat. Being matched with trash players while you’re going up against better players will always be the killer.”
What really pops is how many players are simply… leaving. Others have talked about going to Apex Legends, Helldivers 2, Phasmophobia, and The Finals out of retaliation. That is a huge red flag when your most committed PvP players know better than to jump into your marquee competitive mode and rather move on to other games.
Frustration is the word on everyone’s lips. @harvey_nicholls begged Bungie, “GUYs for god say something about the state of PvP. Forget the haters, people still need the hope that you’re actually doing something about the game.” Whereas @plandemic20 said they hadn’t “seen a positive response or comment to this. Maybe it’s time to listen to the people and make the experience fun and enjoyable again.”
Even technically winning players aren’t having fun. @SoulxDD talked of a 1.8 KD and yet still couldn’t get past three wins as each match was just “5 other hunters all using the handcannon shotty + knife combo with the 2 tap graviton.” Instead of continuing, they just logged off to go play The Finals.
What do all these complaints have in common? Bungie just isn’t listening. @MADKILLER2175 was quick to state: “Just take this hot trash out of the game since you dont want to fix it. It’s weird how you like to post about knowing where it stands in the game too.”
Seeing this high-level collective dissatisfaction across the entire player base is quite a rarity. Usually, there might be divisions, sometimes between the casuals and the hardcore players, but right now? Everyone seems to agree that Trials of Osiris is in a terrible state. The meta is stale and oppressive, the matchmaking is broken, and the entire experience just isn’t fun anymore.
One of the factors for why this has kept gaining momentum is the silence from Bungie over these concerns. Players want communication. They want to see that the developers are aware and looking into fixes. Until that happens, it looks like the Lighthouse may be burning bright just a bit too brightly – and not in an awesome way. Trials in its present state is steadily pulling the base away, and if that changes not soon, the fear that forsaking fire will go extinguished forever is horrifying.
